Slow to connect to ANT sensors

I have an ANT tempe sensor, and despite having initially paired / connected this to my Vivoactive 3, it seem to take an AGE to connect when I am waiting to start a run. Sometimes it just doesnt connect at all, even if its right next to the watch. Ive done a couple of activities and had to start running as I got bored of waiting, and then it will never connect.

I used this flawlessly with 100% reliability with my FR235, so I am wondering if there is maybe an issue here. The Tempe definitely works, and if I remove it, I can re-pair it, but it seems to be painfully slow, or unreliable to connect again.
  • I also have the same issue using my 935. Sometimes you have to wait an age for it to connect, other times it connects quickly. I've even had the watch connect to the Tempe that's on my running shoe circa 30ft away with two brick walls in-between, but not to the (required) Tempe on my bike that's 2ft away. I also get random 'drop outs' appearing in the temperature graphs on Connect when the watch appears to have switched over to recording using the watch temp. sensor before reconnecting again. I've had words with the beta team about this but never had a reply.
  • The Tempe takes a minute or two to connect on Garmin watches. It has to do with how it works and how the search for it happens. It's just the way it is. Sometime it can connect fast, but it has to do with timing.
  • Similar issues with my Tempe and prior Garmin FR 235. Actually, even when it works during daylight/ sunny days it easily picks up radiant heat off the roads and that sends the temperature readings soaring, at least here in Florida. Retired my Tempe.
  • runn - the key is to not clip it to your shoe. I picked up an S-Biner from Home Depot (~$2US) and clip it else where. In cooler weather, I just clip it to a jacket zipper for example.ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1260692.png

I'm having the same issue connecting to my speed and cadence sensors. Both initially paired no problem. Since then I've been having to go into settings, sensors, and press connect for either of them to pair.
  • Thanks for the replies. Yes I know the Tempe and other ANT sensors can be slow, and especially with the TEMPE, there is only a hearbeat sent out every now and again, but Ive used this for several months with my FR235 and it always connected by the time I walked to the end of our short road. The situation is much worse with the Vivoactive 3 as it appears that it randomly wont connect, ever. At least not in the 10+ mins I waited. It has connected at times though, so its hit and miss

Can you go into the sensor settings and force a connect?

With my VAHR I often have to do that with my bike speed/cadence while it connects immediately to the Edge 500.
