Significant battery drain after 2.50 update

I updated my VA3 to version 2.50 yesterday and now the battery is draining significantly faster than before.

With version 2.40 after 24 hours the battery would be at around 87%.

Now, after updating to 2.50, the battery is at 75% after 12 hours.

Anyone else experiencing this also?

I've submitted a ticket to Garmin ... but I really don't have high hopes of getting a response. The past two tickets I submitted were pretty much ignored.

<sigh/>

Averaged 10% battery usage on 2.40, last night dropped from 100% to 73% sitting on my nightstand while I slept on 2.50

I've had same problem. Went from easily lasting 5 days with multiple activities (running, walking, cycling) to barely making it through 2 days with no activity.

Just did a reset, so hoping that solves problem like it has for others.

Other than this glitch, I love this watch. Big improvement over the original Vivoactive I had before this.

Having similar issue. Charged yesterday fully at 1pm. Didn't do any activities yesterday. Bluetooth off. No major apps added - just a simple watch face. Left it off during sleep, woke up to 35%.

How do we do a hard reset?
  • Press and hold power button for 15secs until the display goes blank.
  • Hard reset on my wife's watch fixed the issue to some extent.
  • For me, the drain occurs when the watch is not on my wrist:

From 100% to 80% in 48hours on my wrist with custom watch face (I'm developer)
From 80% to 25% in 6 hours, the Vivoactive on my desk.

Yup. I was heading for 100% per day after 2.50. Switched off and on and everything was back to normal.

Just to add a few more numbers to the list:

100 to 95 in about 15 minutes after charge
95 to 88 10 hours later - custom watchface (DVM - one of mine)

Have not tested power drain sitting on my desk. If I remember, I will try charging this and my VAHR and seeing how they compare during a day. I am going to look strange wearing both of them during my workout but should be good data.
  • First day I had my VA3, it updated to 2.50 almost immediately. Went through with the setup and downloaded two watch faces. Within hours it was draining FAST, like almost 5% per hour. I did a full factory reset, including deleting everything in the \Garmin directory on the watch and set it up again. Now, I'm kind of astounded with how good the battery life is in 24/7 use.
