EDIT Oct 2020: I have tried using my own fix, but as someone has stated in their reply, I am also having to constantly adjust this setting whenever the watch button is facing to the left. The backlight gesture just always reverts to acting as if the watch button was facing to the right, even though my watch face is oriented with the button on the left. FRUSTRATING!
If anyone is still having this problem in 2020, I've found that setting the button orientation to the opposite setting and then switching it back to the way you want it, fixed this issue. Works like a charm now.
