VA 3 Bugs/ Feature Requests

I received my unit last night. Since then I have been playing with it. I like how it looks, feels, but I am experiencing several issues, as some of you. Here is a list of issues so far:
- Alarm - does not always work. When a new alarm is created on the GC app, it will sync but will not work consistently. Same case alarm set on watch.
- Notifications - I received some of the notifications last night, but none today. I tried resetting the device and restarting the phone/ clearing cache. I am using an iphone 7 with a GC Beta app.
- Can't rename a custom activity
- Device rebooted a couple of times so far while configuring apps
- The Run app completely disappeared. Resetting the device brought this back.
- Backlight turns on to gestures during do not disturb mode or during sleep hours

Things may or may not able to fix by a SW update:
- Vibration is too weak even at high setting (at least for me). This is not enough to wake me up :). I wake up easily to Fenix/forerunner alarms.
- Tones?

Feature Requests:
- Option to turn backlight on only after sunset (to save battery)
- Ability to reduce back light intensity to 5% or lower
- Widgets for ABC and temp sensors
- App for mountain biking
- Basic map (may be I am asking too much here)

I did a run this morning wearing VA 3 on my left hand and FR935 on my right hand. Overall, the GPS track was very close. The heart rate data differed slightly (VA3 generally showed higher than FR935). I am still evaluating the battery life. I charged the device to 59% last night now it is 43%. Please add your bugs/ features to this post.

I played 9 holes yesterday and only had a couple minor issues. What's not working with yours?

  • Shot detection doesn?t work.
    You cant change your handicap.
You cant change your driving distance.
Syncing your score to ConnectIQ is hit and miss.
    GPS lock takes an age.

A feature i would also like is having imperial measurements for Golf but metric for everything else. Not sure if that?s possible.
  • Bug:
When I get a text message I will get a notification and I read it, I don't respond to the text and hit cancel. The notification still stays in the notification widget on on the clock screen.
There is no more notification in my phone, I can only respond to the message not remove it.
When I delete the text message from my phone it still stays in the notification widget and on the clock screen.
The only way to get rid of it is to reboot the watch.

    Feature:
You resting heart rate of that day on the heart rate widget and not only on the app would be nice. Now you see a chart but you have no idea what your resting heart rate of that day is.

    - Workout editor in the Garmin connect page: moving steps around is a nightmare. The positioning is pixel-perfect and it's difficult and frustrating to try to place steps in the right position
    - Several basic weight exercises cannot be selected and I cannot add my own names. E.g. Chest press, lounges, row machine, chest and back flyes, pullover to name a few
  • Lounges are for the rests. ;)
I agree that being able to add your own names to steps should be an option. It took me a while to figure out that what I call "toe raises" are called "calf raises" in the app.

Depends how much weight you add to the barbell while you do them :p

    Anyhow another feature request:
I've done a 'general' strength training. Of course a few hit an misses but I've fixed them on the garmin web page. Would be nice to have an option "use this as draft to create a workout plan out of it".

Bug : intensity minutes on the VA3 mentions 124/150 and the details only show activity on Tuesday and Wednesday while the app show, correctly, 4 days, 201/150.

I just hope somebody from Garmin will actually read this stuff.

Someone from Garmin may read the forum's, but they're not required. The forum threads and reply post are just a means for user's to share information. There are several post in this forum from people who have stated they don't even own a VA3. If you read this thread there are several "bug" reports that are not bugs at all. Another reason the forum's aren't a means for Garmin to correct bug reports is the lack of individual information. What FW are they using?, what type of phone?, what Garmin Express version?, etc. How to you create a fix without having all the information? I'm not saying this is a useless thread by no means. As I said earlier, it's a great place to share information. If someone believes that they have a bug, they need to contact Garmin Support. By doing so, actual bugs can be recorded and worked on and some may be individual issues and also resolved. Multiple trouble reports for the same problem sent to Support will send up a red flag. That's the way to get your voice heard.

In response to the post above about taking Manual laps - RAy MAker - writes that Garmin will provide a virtual button on screen to take a manual lap .
Please see My comments on taking laps on screen on my VA:
Maunual Laps taken through one tap on the return virtual button (bottom left on VA screen) have worked consistently and accurately for me over the past three years.
The only downside of this approach, which Garmin appears to be taking is accidental activation of the function button (bottom left on VA screen) and the triggering of the return to start ? pretty annoying while racing.
    I would advice
GARMIN _ IF THEY ARE FOLLOWING THIS THREAD!
to stick to a virtual single button , located in the middle of the screen . A single, rather than a double tap would be best, as the VA blocks the virtual button for a short while after being taken to avoid accidental doudle taps- which allows for accurate laps being recorded while racing .When I hear the vibration buzz can be confident that a laps was taken, without looking down at the screen.
    Hope this is helpful!
