2 1/2 days-VVA 3 almost DEAD. You think I would learn

I am not a happy camper. Had alarm set for 0505. Didn't wake me. Missed an early morning run. Woke up at 0620 and found the watch FUBAR!
Attempted to get to alarm via clock. Locked when tapping alarm. Powered down. Restarted showed right date, wrong time and it had carried over my distance covered from Monday.
Went outside- activated GPS- that seemed to work. Walked a bit. Deleted the activity. Watch returned to right date/wrong time/ still had Monday distance on my No Frills watch face.
Tried several more power downs- same results. Frustrated- *** yes!
Back to Best Buy. Hope other folks have better luck. Early adapters BEWARE. Nick

Man that sucks. I will have to say mine has been amazing. I have bought and returned all kinds of devices but this one maybe a keeper. Hopefully you just got a bad load of software. Was it running the latest software?
  • Dang it. That doesn't sound good. Did you try a factory reset/restore defaults?

Hope you get a positive resolution.

Was this while running firmware 2.4? 2.20 is pretty damn buggy and that?s what it comes out of the box with.

    either way, sorry to hear.
  • Running 2.40. Per R Tellis did the dreadeded restore defaults. Had to talk with Garmin support. I think I am squared away. Now have to reconfigure, get my No Frills watch face and all the crap I had set up. Will advise. Thanks RTellis.
  • Glad it worked, sorry it came to that. Good luck in the future.

FWIW you don't need to start and activity to get the GPS to reset the time/date/time zone. This is based on the VAHR and I assume that VA3 is not much different. Just got to an activity that uses the GPS and wait for it to sync. Then cancel the activity.
  • Thanx Bill, I was pretty sure getting a lock on GPS would do the trick, but wanted to see if the GPS was actually functional. As screwed up as my watch was this AM after getting a GPS fix, the time was way off. Doing the restore default and getting my IPhone (SE) to Connect was a PIA. All good now. I will set several alarms so I don't miss my run tomorrow. You would think with over 87,000 miles run, missing a run should not be a big deal. My sickness continues:)

Similar problem last night. Woke up at 1 am, and my watch showed 9:17 pm and was locked solid. Rebooted it, and it came back with the wrong time and battery had gone from 70% to 10% in a matter of hours. Said screw it and went back to sleep, next morning when it hooked to my phone and sync'd it corrected the time and started behaving normally. Charged it and everything looks good.
