Garmin asking to update constantly throughout the day, even after turning automatic update off.

The issue has been going on for a long time. I stopped using the watch for almost 4 months.
I have come back to use it and the problem is still happening.
The GPS has stopped working now also. Please help! It is driving me mad.
I have tried removing all data and setting up the watch again. This did not work.
