Original Venu no longer showing called ID, but shows name on missed/rejected call

Have had the Venu for a few years and I like it but about 9 - 12 months ago, I started having issues where when a call comes in, it won't show who's calling on the watch. It says "unknown". If I reject the call or just let it ring, on the missed call notification it gives the name (or number if it's not in my contacts).

In my phone permissions, for the connect app I have permissions on for "contacts, location, nearby devices, phone and SMS" so I should be covered.

I use a Samsung Galaxy S20FE. It was fine when I switched from my galaxy S8 to S20 so I don't think it's a phone issue. I don't recall it being tied to any updates on the phone or watch and I'm at a loss.

I switched to use google for my contacts instead of the native android app but I don't think it was tied to that change either and in fact I put my contacts back into the native android app so they're in two places and it still doesn't work. In the permissions for the connect app, I guess I don't know which "contacts" has permission but it shouldn't matter if I have them in both.

This is driving me absolutely nuts to the point I'm tempted to just get a new Venu 2 or something.

Hoping someone out there might have a solve.

  • Well, this makes no sense to me, but I solved it. On a whim, I wanted to see if it was a phone issue or a watch issue so I charged up my old Vivomove HR that I haven't used in ages and never synced up to my Galaxy S20. I did the pairing and all that and synced it in the connect app. Had someone call me and magically the Vivomove HR AND the Venu now show the name of the person calling. Had someone not in my contacts try it and it shows the phone number as it should vs "unknown". Turned bluetooth off on the Vivomove HR so it's back to just my Venu connected and it still works fine. Literally have no idea what that was all about but I'm glad I thought to use the other watch which apparently "burped" the system and sorted everything out.
