Heart rate sensor lag / frequently inaccurate?

I've noticed with my Venu (1st edition) that the HR sensor seems have become rather inaccurate and at times will even lag behind by several minutes. In most cases, taking the watch off and putting it back on results in the heart rate value dropping by ~20-30 bpm, however sometimes it will continue to report heart rate values for almost 5 minutes while sitting on a desk. When starting an activity on the watch such as cardio the heart rate value tends to almost immediately jump up ~20 bpm.

I have already had my watch replaced under warranty once due to the heart rate sensor on the previous one completely failing, and am now starting to think there's something wrong at the firmware level. I've performed a factory reset/data wipe and resync using Garmin Express on Windows and that has not resolved the issue. Current FW version is 6.50.

Any suggestions or others with the same issue?

  • I’d try re-booting it with a hard re-set and see if that makes a difference.  Hold the A button for 10 seconds (past any assistance notifications) until it turns off.  Wait a couple seconds then turn it back on by pressing the A button again.

Thanks for the suggestion. I should have mentioned I've tried this as well and usually do a hard restart on it once a week, but that doesnt seem to improve the situation.

  • anche io ho lo stesso problema ......

    tecnici garmin potete aiutarci grazie

  • Yes, it lags a lot when you stop an activity such as Walking or Cardio.

It started sometime mid-to-late last year. If you stop the activity and then save, the HR will lag for many minutes.

It causes a completely inaccurate Recovery Rate reading too. As far as I know, Recovery Rate is used to estimate VO2 Max. So, the data we are getting is inaccurate.

Garmin should have fixed this months ago, but I guess they are busy churning out minor hardware updates and are not worried about keeping the original Venu working properly.
