Error when adding Credit Card to Garmin Pay - Garmin Venu - Google Pixel 4a

On my Garmin Venu, I get error "The authorization of this card has failed. Retry later." when I add a credit card as payment method.

I have Google Pixel 4a and Garmin Connect and Connect IQ installed. The Android and Garmin Connect are both at latest operating versions as of today.

I checked all past posts on this forum. Removed all Payment method from Garmin App, Uninstalled Garmin App, Rebooted phone, Reinstalled Garmin App, Tried adding Payment method and still get same error.

The setup was working well when I setup same credit card with Garmin Pay. It only gives error now. Only thing changed in between is Android version and Garmin Connect app version. 

Have you experienced similar issue now?

  • I tried to set up Garmin pay today and got the same error. Garmin Venu, Google Pixel 3XL, all on current updates.

    I also get same error on iPhone with latest iOS and Garmin connect app. So problem is definitely with Garmin connect app and not Android. 

  • Garmin Pay is a joke.

    I set it up once, after a number of tries resulting in errors, but then had to reset the watch for some reason and never bothered, because it was too much effort.

    Garmin Pay also doesn't support American Express, which is ridiculous. Most businesses use AmEx, and I generally prefer it over other cards because of the services they offer.

    Without American Express support, it's not a complete pay service, so I just use my phone.

  • We have fielded other inquiries for this issue.  In each of those interactions, there was some piece of information being inputted incorrectly.  This could be, but is not limited to the actual card number, expiration month or year, the security code (this is the CVC code on the back of the card, NOT the Garmin Pay PIN code), or any of the (billing) address information.  Please make sure that this (billing) address info matches what you have on file with your bank.

  • We definitely want as many banks as possible to participate in the Garmin Pay system.  Per the FAQ I have linked below, please reach out to American Express to express your interest in using your card with Garmin Pay.  If enough AMEX customers express their interest as well, they may consider making their card(s) compatible with our Garmin Pay system.

    Is My Bank Card Compatible With Garmin Pay?

  • Having tried setting up Garmin Pay for at least 50 times over many weeks on Android and iOS, I can confirm that all fields are entered correctly. I used Garmin Pay for many months successfully and loved it as I don't need to use phone. Easier to use watch especially for coffee after a run. 

    It's only now that it is not working on Android and iOS with latest updates of Garmin App. Even Bank reset my digital wallet from there side too. So I have run out of options.

    It could be possible that Garmin App is good and issue all of sudden appeared in Android and iOS both simultaneously. 

    Currently I am using iWatch with Apple pay. 

    Will wait if future Garmin update will miraculously fix it.
