How do you properly calibrate the GPS on the Garmin Venu?

Hi! I just bought a new Garmin Venu Watch and went for a long run. I know my typical running pace and the mileage of the route and when I ran today, my watch was off by easily a mile (of a 9 mile run) and the mileage pace was off too. It even jumped when I was going the same pace from 12 min mile to 11.5 min mile to 9 min mile to 8 min mile and then up to 12 min mile again.

Does anyone know how to properly calibrate the watch?

I don’t want to run with my phone for GPS, that is one of the reasons I bought the watch to be able to tell me how far I’ve exercised and my pacing etc on its own.

Thanks!

  • It automatically connects to GPS when you start the activity.  As far as I know there isn’t anything to calibrate to.  When you connect and sync with the garmin connect app it should download several days worth of satellite data.  What are you comparing it to?  Has your watch downloaded any updates?

  • Ciao anche io ho notato delle due incongruenze su distanza e velocità ...perché mi alleno sempre sulla stessa pista inoltre oggi notavo pure la diversità di quota della pista  .....

  • Hey there! This sounds like you did not wait for the device to indicate it was ready when starting the activity. You have to start the activity then wait for the GPS to connect to the satellites then start the activity. You do not need your phone to run and collect GPS data.
