My wife has had this Venu since a couple of months after it came out. It's always kind of been a love/hate relationship between me and her Venu. But the one thing that keeps me more on the hate side of the equation is the GPS. I understand that these are consumer products and that I have to expect a certain amount of inaccuracy, but this thing is ridiculous. Looking at just the mileage, I'd be tempted to think that there's not a problem. It's the maps of our walks and hikes that show the issue. They routinely have her going places that we didn't walk. It show a lot of jagged lines that make us look like we're very drunk while walking. It has us walking through the middle of neighbor's houses and out into the middle of busy streets. Occasionally, it will have her starting point as down the street from where we actually started.
Contrast this to my watch. Somehow the firmware on my watch has never been updated. It is currently on 3.5. I have none of these problems. All of my walks are always within 0.02 miles. The lines on the map are smooth and exactly where we walked. I've never had any problems with it.
I contacted Garmin on my wife's behalf to talk with them about what was going on with her watch. They asked a couple of questions and for my permission to go into her account. Once they had a look at that and the maps that I sent, they sent out a new (aka refurbished) watch. The thing is, it really isn't any better. The maps still show all of the problems that they showed on her old watch.
Is there anything that can be done to actually fix this? I offered to give her my watch but she doesn't want to be on an old firmware because she uses a watch face that won't work on my watch. I don't know what else we can do to fix this. I just know, at least based on this new watch she has, that the issue does not appear to be hardware related. These problems only really started a few months ago.
