Music Controls work for Venu and Spotify but not Phone

I've just bought a Venu after having terrible connection issues with a Fitbit Versa

I've downloaded music to the Venu and can control it from the watch. That's fine.

I've connected to Spotify and can control it from the watch. That's fine.

However, I cannot seem to get any control from the watch over my phone. The widget appears and shows me the play and next track icons, etc, but they don't do anything, they don't affect what is playing on the phone.

I'd much prefer to pair my headphones to my phone and just use the watch as a remote control for the phone. I'm using Hifi Cast as a music player on the phone.

Any ideas why the watch won't control the music on the phone?

Open the music app on your phone first and then try the music controls. Thats what I usually do for my audible books so I can play them from the watch.

Yes, that seems to be it. I have to open the music playing app on the phone and actually set a track playing first. Once something is playing and there are other tracks in the play queue, then the track info appears on the watch and the controls work. Thanks.

I only wish someday, like the Versa, they will let you choose your playlist / artists from the watch control as well. Your stuck with whatever playlist your on until you get your phone out as of now it seems.
