Venu screen burn-in

I've been using a specific WF for several months, with AOD turned OFF.
This week I began trying out a new WF and then noticed that the previous one has caused screen burn-in (I emphasize that AOD is OFF).
Has anyone had this experience?

  • I have the same problem on my Venu after 2 years with AOD=OFF and automatic brightness.

No warranty after 2 years. I'm very disappointed.

  • Just contact Garmin support, they will issue you a "refurbished" "like new" replacement watch. I wanted to keep a watch without first sending it in, while they ship the new one, so they allowed me to pay for the refurb and then refunded me the money as soon as they received the old one.

  • My Venu just started suffering from OLED burn in, after almost exactly 2 years of use (bought it on Nov, 2020). Same as most here, I always keep brightness in auto/low and never turn on AOD and also as many others have reported, it started suddenly, not gradually.

I noticed that if I create custom watch faces with strong bright colors (white, cyan, magenta, red, blue, etc.) and switch between them, the screen improves somewhat, although there's always some ghosting present.

I also own a Fitbit (and most of my family members do too) and even though they also have OLED screens, none has ever showed any burn-in or ghosting. This is really disappointing from Garmin as I thought these watches were bulletproof.

  • Hello

Same problem. It was catastrophic. I sent an email to Garmin french support. After several reminders, no answer.

I finally went back to Fnac (famous french store). The guy told me that the policy is not repairable. As the watch was under warranty, I obtained a credit note (amount = buying price) to buy what I want.

  • You are lucky your watch was still under warranty. Most of us had this happen after 1+ years of ownership.

  • Mine was outside of warranty and they still replaced it. It was a stand-up move by Garmin.

  • Did they ask you to pay for a replacement of a watch out of warranty ?

I've called the support (France) and they talked about 150€ to get a new one. Considering the price i've paid on 2019, adding another 150€ for a watch that could have the same problem soon is pretty high

  • They did not ask me to pay, the replacement was free. It was very fair of them.

I agree, 150 Euro is ridiculous to replace an aging watch that broke because of a hardware failure.

  • Back in Nov. '19 I bought my Venu, 9 months later I noticed this burn-in issue too. Garmin replaced it quickly, no fuss!

For this second Venu, I chose another, less bright, watch face, set the brightness on low-auto and allways-on on dark blue hour and minute hands only. Now, Nov. '22, I got so fed up with the screen becoming hard to read, I wrote to Garmin Support again, sent it in and received a refurbished Venu! Looks completely new to me.

So I am now on my third Venu in as many years. I must say Garmin's support is unbelievably great here!

But still it is a pity that their hardware screen quality on the Venu is so low. Eventhough technically I think it is a great device on all its other features, I would not recommend Garmin AMOLED Venu to my friends. I especially chose the Venu because of the AMOLED screen.

I have not researched it, but wonder about Garmin's other watches with this type of screen. I wonder how my Venu will hold up in one year.

    Regards & Season's Greetings

  • same problem as OP, bought the watch in april 2020... never used AOD and had brightness set to low. i've sent an email to my local garmin support and see what will return.

edit 2 weeks later: garmin support DACH-region replaced my venu with a recertified device, even though my warranty was already expired. looks like new, they even added a free silicone quick release band. definitely an outstanding move from garmin!
