New to Garmin. Newb questions

I can't find anything on the Internet specifically covering this, so I'd appreciate any input. I'm considering a Venu watch. Along with that I'd like to get a Polar Verity Sense armband heart rate monitor. That said, how do the following work together?

Garmin has the “Garmin Connect” app. Polar has “Polar Flow”. And then there's MyFitnessPal for Android. How do they all work together?

For example, after a jog, do I need to type in the results of the jog (e.g., distance, calories burned, etc) from Polar Flow into MyFitnessPal? Or does it automatically import itself? Maybe this something Garmin Connect keeps track of? To the same point, how does this work with tracking food?

Thanks in advance

  • Not sure this would work as these are two different "ecosystems" ;-)

Just out of curiosity, why would you want to combine two HR monitors ?

  • I might be able to offer a bit of information on this.  I have a Garmin Venu, and a Polar OH1 armband HR monitor that I've used with a variety of sports watches, and it pairs just fine with the Venu.  The ONLY time you need Polar Flow is when you're actually initializing the armband, that is, waking it up, and configuring it, or updated the firmware, otherwise, Polar Flow just sits there on the shelf, waiting.  Garmin connect will pick up the heart rate from the "properly connected" Polar device, along with others, like Tickr, or other Polar devices, Scosche, etc.  The venu will also connect with external sensors such as the Tempe (for temperature), or speed/cadence monitors for your bike.

MyFitnessPal, when it's working, and not "down", will once again, when connected with Garmin Connect, will provide food intake calorie levels, and Garmin connect will use that, along with the calorie value burned, to determin a calorie surplus/deficit for the day.  That's about it.  I changed to another app for my food intake, and IMHO it's much better, recipe import is much easier, and it provides way more information, but it doesn't import into Garmin.  It's called "My Net Diary". Give it a look, but that's not in the realm of this message.  So, bottom line, is that all will work together, and import the data into Garmin Connect nicely so you have all of your data in one spot.  Everything from your watch will automagically import into Garmin connect as soon as you finish your run/walk/bike ride/whatever exercise.

OEAGLEO thanks a lot for the reply.  I had no idea how all these pieces fit together.  A big help.
