I Love My Venu Because ...

Usually forums are full with complaints. People are rarely voicing what they like with their products, and stay silent when everything just work.

I propose this thread where each of us who reply, to write 5 (five) things they like. And 3 (three) things they would like to see improved. If you can't come up with five things to love your Venue for, please don't comment.

So, I love my Venu because:

  1. Battery life is excellent compared to Samsung/Apple watches
  2. Heart rate monitor is very precise all day long
  3. It has lots of activity tracking, and whatever I miss I can add from the IQ Store and the apps are really cheap
  4. It looks great on my wrist. Not too big, not too small, and it has a pleasant but discrete design
  5. Frequent software updates. I had more updates in 11 months on my Venu than on all my other previous smartwatches combined. With Samsung you are lucky to get 2 updates in the first year, and than maybe another 2 updates in the future ... so I had 4 in total for a watch I used 4+ years.

What could be improved:

  1. Water tracking widget gives IQ error if I click check mark on a drink notification. I reported this several times, but the problem still persists.
  2. I would love if Garmin would allow body battery access for 3rd party watch faces.
  3. I would like to have automatic generic activity tracking. So, for example, if I play with my kid and we do a lot of physical activity like throwing balls and running after each other, it would be great if the watch would automatically record and activity of type "Other".

Hi there! Thank you for this positive feedback! It's great to hear why you love the Garmin Venu and I appreciate the feed back regarding the suggestions you would like to see!

  • It's probably a bit early because it's the second week with my venu but i love my venu because:

1)the display is beatiful especially coming from something like VA4(i know that many likes that type of screen and nothing against it...it's just not for me)

2)it's giving me a good amount of flexibility. I want more battery? I can turn off the "always on". Want a smartwatch that is doing the watch part always? Turn on the "always on". Battery looks really good. Always on active, spo2 during night, 3 hours with gps and after 48 hours i still had 20% battery left

3)i'm really impressed with the GPS accuracy...not saying it's perfect and not looking at centimeters.

    4)perfect dimensions and really comfortable

5)heart rate sensor seems like it's doing a good job for runs and normal day activities and the possibility to connect to external sensors solve the issue with some excersises that involves a lot of wrist movements

    What could be improved:

1)spo2 readings looks strange with sudden drops while my breath rate is constant

2)spo2 readings should start when the sleep tracking starts and not at the time that i set the "usual sleeping time"

3)sleeping stages looks strange...i have always the deep sleep during the first few hours and after that only REM and light sleep(and awake if i wake up of course).

  • Hey, great. Thanks for replying to my thread.
Regarding your deep/light/rem sleep cycles. Wait some time and compare sleep data.
From what I know about various blogs on the Internet:
    1. Deep sleep -> regenerate body / physical strength
    2. Light sleep -> regenerate mental fatigue
    3. REM -> solidify new stuff learned
I can see in my sleep data that on days when I exercise, I have mostly deep + rem cycles in the first part of the night, and light + rem on the second part of the night.
When I have day with light but balanced fatigue, meaning I do some physical activity and some mental activity, but I don't get very tired at either type of activity, then the sleep cycles are more balanced as well. Usually I have a longer deep + short light + short rem as the first cycle. Following cycles during the night show a mix of deep + light + rem with light sleep slowly taking over as morning approaches.
After a stressful and intense day at work (I do intellectual work), my night is mostly only light sleep. And this usually leads to waking up sore and having a low physical energy in the first part of the next day.

And here is one more cool thing I discovered. You know, they say caffeine stays in your body for 12 hours. If I look at my body battery history of the previous night, it starts rising 12 hours after my last coffee, almost down to the minute. That's soooooo cooool!
