Swimming auto rest

Hi guys,

I have a Venu. I am very satisfied with it.

I swim at the agonistic level. The Garmin works well in data collection (HR, total laps, distances, heart zones, etc.).

The only thing that really doesn’t work is the auto rest mode. The Venu often doesn't recognize when my series is over and I stop. Species for short rest times (5 or 10 seconds). This is very bad.

I'm trying everything: I push my hand hard on the wall, I try to stay totally still, etc. But the Venu often doesn't understand the rest. That is a shame.

Any idea what to do? I had an Amazfit who was never wrong. I hope Garmin will soon improve this in a new update (please!).

In the meantime, does anyone have any advice? How does this work for you?

Hello! Here is a helpful article that describes the Auto Rest feature a little bit better. As the article mentions, if you are resting for shorter than 20 seconds, pressing the lap button at the beginning and end of each swim interval may work better for you.

  • Hi Isabella, thank you for your kind answer.

Yes, I had read that article. But the problem is that who swim at medium/high levels often have very short pauses. Push the button every time it's very complicated. And not accurate. I believe it would be better to optimise the auto rest on shorter breaks.

Anyway, I really liked the Garmin. Today, I found a good offer to upgrade to the 745. I'll return the Venu. Hope the 745 will be more accurate on swimming (and cycling).

No problem. The lap button is helpful for shorter breaks and accuracy because it takes the watch a second to realize you have stopped with auto rest, but I understand where you are coming from. I hope the 745 will work well for you!

  • Thank you!

Just, can you explain better this:”it takes the watch a second to realize you have stopped with auto rest”. I don’t understand completely what do you mean.

Sometimes it takes the watch a couple seconds and then it will start the Auto Rest feature.
