Workout Plans - Custom Names for Exercises?

Former Member

Dear Garmin,

I am trying to add my exercises into the custom workout, but it is quite annoying to find that I have so little control of custom workout names, if the name does not already appear in the drop down option, I can't add it, and trying to find a similar exercise proves to be time consuming and tedious, as there is no easy way to quickly scan the exercise name to the action. I tried to look for a simple glossary of workout names and pictures on the site with no avail. The custom workout option is extremely limited, I suggest to at least give the option of being able to type in your own exercise name, this would add so much value to the custom workout option and would be greatly appreciated and helpful.

Hello! I agree, this would be super convenient. I will set up a feature request for you. There is no guarantee that this change can be made, but we do appreciate user feedback on how we can improve our products and your customer experience!

  • I support. I am a trainer and dietitian, and my workouts are also based on more than 6 major "multi-joints" and 20 variations of them. The base is too small. Instead of updating it, you could leave the choice to users. Great idea. There are many people at the gym that use Garmins. So I think there are thousands of people who would benefit from this change.

I will also add two issues regarding strength training in Garmin. Automatic rep counting is so fatal that it disturbs more than helps. Garmin should work on it. The device has so many sensors that it can use for this...

Another key issue of strength training in Garmin. It is not possible to enter the weight of the load with the accuracy of tenths or hundredths of the decimal place. So what if we will create our own training and send it to the watch, since the automatic repetition counting works terrible and after each series you still have to enter the weight of the load and the number of repetitions. The problem is that if we entered e.g. 22.5 kg dumbbells, we will not enter it in the watch. We need either 22 or 23 kg. From the point of view of professionals who are recording their progress, this is unacceptable. So either Garmin will give you the option to choose what you want to edit (e.g. only the number of repetitions without the weight of the barbell or dumbbell) or let it give you the option to enter the load in the edition, e.g. 22.5 kg or 22.25 kg. It would be nice if someone finally took care of it. From my point of view, these are the biggest flaws of the software in this watch.

  • Hey there, we appreciate your feedback! I will get you added to this feature request as well.

  • Garmin - I feel this is a complete lie on your part. I have poured through YEARS of user requests to add custom descriptions for workouts. The list is missing countless, updated movements. Frankly, I think Garmin could care less about meeting customer needs since this has been a problem for, by my count, 6 years.

  • It would be enough for Garmin engineers to have the humility to try a Polar watch with the Polar Flow system to understand how useless and obsolete Garmin Connect is.

  • To everyone reading through this topic - spam connect app reviews with one star explaining the feature request, they will notice it!

It's unbelievable that such a simple thing was not added over the years.
