Chest strap vs wrist

Hi, is there a way to always use chest strap for HR monitoring even when not in activity mode. The wrist HRM of the Venu is useless, even when doing nothing it deviates significantly from the Polar H10 strap readings. I would like to be able to set the watch to always use the strap as monitor, when present, even if not in activity mode.

Alternatively, a software update to improve the HRM on the Venu would be great. It appears to have suffer extreme lag in detecting changes. Never experienced this with other wrist based HRM. Have used Venu now for a week, but seriously considering returning it.

Thanks,

Johan

  • You can't have an external sensor connected to the watch outside of activity mode, but you can use the HRM-Pro chest strap as an alternative activity tracker. This one connects to the Garmin Connect app directly, so no need to keep it connected to the watch.

  • Odd because for me, it's quite precise. I have stopped using my strap for my runs because the value returned by the wrist is within 1 heart beat of what the strap gives to my phone app (meerun, I know, old app but I like its display) and lags by one or two seconds max.

Thanks for the responses. Would this be a feature (using a strap as preferred monitor when present) the developers can include in a future software updates. Seems like this would be a simple thing to do, asking this as a preference setting? I would like to see high resolution HR data even when not doing an activity. Where would one post such developers request?
