Broken until Reboot?

I use my Venu as a swim tracker, among other things.  Usually it's decent.  Mediocre at stroke detection and distance, but otherwise okay.  But yesterday it didn't recognize distance at all.  It sometimes recognized motion was happening (i.e. left "rest" mode), sometimes didn't, but either way, tracked no distance.  I stopped and restarted the Swim Activity several times before doing a full power cycle on the Venu, which appears to have solved the problem.

Is this considered normal, like with an old Windows computer?  Are we supposed to reboot the device every week or so?

  • Hello. Restarting the device often is not normal practice. Is the device up to date? Can you plug the device into the computer and sync with Garmin Express?

Have you double checked that the pool size is correct and Is your auto rest enabled or disabled?

  • Auto-Rest is enabled, pool size is correct, and it works fine after a reboot.

I'm beginning to suspect that the Swim activity has a serious bug where, if a Cadence Sensor is known, even if not connected, Swim tries to use it.  Which can't work anyhow because bluetooth doesn't work under water.
