Adjusting volume on Venu SQ doesn't work

My new Garmin Venu SQ won't let me adjust volume of my Xiaomi Mi True Wireless earbuds (tapping volume up and down on the watch does nothing to the volume). This is a problem specifically with these earbuds, as with my Sony headphones I have no problems whatsoever. Does anyone have a solution or having the same issue with their earbuds?

Seems that the volume widget is only connected to the Spotify option. When I play music from Spotify (directly from the watch) the volume setting on the watch works but if I play audio from my phone and want to change volume and/or track/station the watch widget does nothing. I have to use the earbud functions/buttons or pick up the phone.
