Hi,
I go for a hike once a week every week - I'm looking for a way to record my hike - is there a way to record hike activity in Vivomove 3 style?
Hi,

I use the Hike2 app from the IQ Store and it provides all the relevant information. It's very good. See this thread where there is a discussion about it:

Garmin-AmberD Unfortunately, Cardio is a really poor alternative for Trail Hiking or Trail Running.
First, it doesn't show a map and it doesn't use the GPS.
Second, I tried it last night running…
i have the venu but i think it's the same for your watch - there is no specific hiking activity preloaded but there are some apps you can add. i find the apps more difficult to use so i just record my hikes as walks and i have preset my 3rd data screen with hiking-specific data (elevation, sunset time, etc.).
i think it's kinda shabby that hiking isn't enabled natively since it is available on other garmin watches and is one of the most common fitness activities people do.

But, yes, the Venu should have Hiking and Trail Running. These are both far more common activities than Golf or some of the other activities Garmin has included on the Venu. Who do they think buys this watch?!
To boot, your VO2Max is not tracked if you are trail running or hiking. I understand the consideration of terrain, but if I understand this right, most trail terrain will impact VO2Max less than the penalty you get from using Running on a trail.
Hello! The Vivomove 3 does not have a hike profile. I recommend using the cardio function on the watch.
Hi amber does it make a difference using cardio vs walking profile for hiking? What is the difference between those and hiking anyway? Is calorie burn calculated differently for example?
Yes, the calories are calculated differently when using the 2 profiles. The watch uses a different algorithm for each activity profile. If your heart rate is higher when hiking you would want to use the cardio feature.
Garmin-AmberD Unfortunately, Cardio is a really poor alternative for Trail Hiking or Trail Running.
First, it doesn't show a map and it doesn't use the GPS.
Second, I tried it last night running up and walking down my driveway and its algorithms are just crazy!
It shows Average HR at 157 and Max HR at 176!!! Total Calories for 38 minutes 429!!! This is wildly inaccurate.
I basically jogged up and when I glanced at the Venu several times, the HR was usually between 100 and 109, nothing higher.
Yet when I synced and looked at the graph, it was a completely different story:
This has never happened in any other mode (I usually use Hike2 for trail hiking/running), but since you suggested Cardio, I figured I'd give it a try.
Can Garmin pay a bit more attention to the Venu, instead of introducing new square models? Add Hike and Trail Running and add Firstbeat to fix the inaccurate Sleep tracking. These are glaring omissions and are leaving a bad taste in many first time users like me (although I am actually really happy with Hike2, but unsure if the Garmin algorithm tracks calories as it should and would like to have a more realistic VO2 Max estimate).
Thank you.
