Okay, so what are the thoughts on this?

Supposedly going to be announced on the 15th of Sep, alongside the New Apple Watch stuff.

Keeping our apps up to date for new watches is hard. I can't update most of my ConnectIQ objects in the store, I don't have time for it. Now another screen style mean much more job...

I don't think so, even Vivoactive 3 is still getting updates even though Vivoactive 4 came last year.

Really? I really hope you are correct.

But releasing several devices every year reminds me Samsung, that only updates their flagships.

All watches from Garmin recently have a round display and therefore all apps are optimized for it. My apps will therefore never support the Garmin Venu SQ with a square display.

Apple, Oppo and other brands release watches with square displays. This means there is a market for square devices and Garmin just wants to get its share in the market. I'm sure round watch series will continue. Or they may break it for a year. First and second Vivoactive watches had square displays, later it continued round. But if they're named with an SQ suffix instead of Venu 2, I think they'll continue it as a different version.
