Floors Climbed (very high numbers )

When ever I start an activity (walking for example) after a minute in the activity, it prompts me about my goal of Floor Climbed which is unreal, Sometimes it 2*Goal sometimes 4*Goal (Goal = 10 Floors) when the real number is less than 10 floors and this did not happen once, been facing this problem for a few days now. Something to do with the update?

  • I turned my Venu off overnight and left it on my desk. When I turned it on in the morning and hadn't moved yet, it said I had climbed 3 floors and completed over 600 steps so far that day, which was clearly completely inaccurate! Don't feel I can trust steps or stairs climbed now :(.

  • I'm also having floors climbed/descended reporting all over the place:
    37 up, 38 down
    2 up, 19 down
    103 up, 6 down
    51 up, 49 down
    etc.

I don't take stairs that often because we don't have many in our house. But when I do, I don't ever climb up and then not back down again, nor visa versa, so I'm not sure what explains the sometimes huge difference between up and down.

  • I still have the previous S/W version. In my case, if I drive over bumps, the floor count increases.

  • The watch's barometer can be calibrated either manually or automatically depending on device. For my VA3, it's automatic by choosing an activity that measures elevation and waiting 30 seconds before pressing the start button. I'm thinking the Venu would be similar.

If you've been using your watches for a while it's possible that the small porthole to the barometric sensor is clogged or dirty. I had a worse issue with my VA3 where my watch would report 1,000s of floors climbed. In fact, one day, it reported a floors climbed statistic 2X my number of steps.

The fix recommended by Garmin support was to run water on the underside of the watch for a few minutes. Sometimes it takes inserting a toothpick into the porthole but be gentle as that risks damaging the sensor. The porthole for the VA3 is near the physical button but I would think the Venu porthole is closer to the center of the watch.
