When will "Audio Prompts" feature that is currently available in the Forerunner and Instinct series make it onto the Venu and Vivoactive platforms?

Greetings, I was wondering when will "Audio Prompts" feature that is currently available in the Forerunner and Instinct series make it onto the Venu and Vivoactive platforms?

To clarify, this is the feature (Training, Planning and Analysis Features -> Audio Prompts), that announces statistics at specific intervals, such as time, pace, heart rate, etc.  I find this to be a useful feature so that I don't have to raise my hand and uncover my Garmin device (outdoor winter training here in the Nothern US) every time my Garmin device vibrates when a configured lap has been completed.

This is a feature that is currently available in some Garmin devices, but is a standard feature in the Google Fit app.

  • But the 245 dosent have a barometer. totally incomprehensible how gamin act there.
I think garmin dosent care about that. Its driven by older manager swho think "Wo do this since YEARS...dosent change the way"

I am on Day 3 with my new Garmin Venu, and I thought I was doing something wrong, or missed some configuration option, when I did not receive any audio prompts during any of my activities on Saturday, Sunday, and this morning. Spent 15 minutes searching Google only to find out the Garmin Venu does not support Audio Prompts. To be completely honest, I NEVER expected this to even be an issue since it is such a basic feature of any GPS watch I have ever owned (as well as the years before that when I ran with my phone strapped to the side of my arm). I would have never purchased the Venu had I actually known this ahead of time.

Reading some of the comment on this thread about the Venu being a "lower end" watch... First of all, I would not categorize a $400 watch as "low end". But, even so, audio prompts with distance, duration and pace are features I would expect of any GPS watch, regardless of cost. Given that the Venu allows me to listen to my Spotify playlist (and it does this extremely well), I did not even dawn on me when I was doing my research on a new watch that it might not prompt my interval statistics.

Dear Garmin Folks... if you happen to read these forums, can you PLEASE include audio prompts in a future firmware update! I really do not want to sell a brand new watch in order to get this feature (mostly because I know I would take a huge difference in what I would get for a used Venu compared with a new one).

This is ridiculous indeed. Just simple stats like distance, avg speed.  Like Strava.

    Dear all,

I'm somehow relieved to read you, as I started to doubt my personal mental capabilities :-) not being able to get those Audio prompts during interval training.

Now, being a 'marketing professional' I can tell that there's a very wrong miscommunication in the Garmin lineup advertisement. I spent many days assessing the best (small) whatch and this Fundamental limitation of vivoactive 4s what mentioned Nowhere on their website, neither in the sport or electronics stores (trade marketing in-store panels).

Same as you, I always used this feature with mobile phone and would never imagine bit could become a lineup effect. It works fine on my girlfriend 70 EUR Google watch.

My request to Garmin product manager is simple :

-please acknowledge the user feedback on this forum, write a simple post to mention you noted the point

-please communicate on the tentative date of a firmware update that will bring the feature

Without this, I'm searching for a new watch to buy, and certainly become a rather  negativepromoter of Garmin brand. Too bad

Hope to read positive development soon, FP

  • Seems you're missing that it was never mentioned as an available feature.  As I said in an earlier it's not been available on the other 3 generations of vivoactives (the venu is pretty much a va4 with a amoled display).

And if you want to suggest that it be added, use https://www.garmin.com/en-US/forms/ideas/ as this is primarily a user-to-user forum.

Okay.... was all set to get a venu so I could leave my iphone at home on a run and have music plus a vibrant display visible pre dawn... however will now wait until audio metrics piped to my earbuds are a function or else get an the apple watch I have been resisting getting as it saturates you with so much distraction  I neither want nor would find helpful. Perhaps Garmin could simply add the Nike Run Club app to the watch repetoire.?

Okay.... was all set to get a venu so I could leave my iphone at home on a run and have music plus a vibrant display visible pre dawn... however will now wait until run prompts & feedback audio metrics being piped to my earbuds are a working function on the Venu (hopefully next firmware release). Alternatively I may get the apple watch I have been resisting getting as it saturates you with so much distraction that I neither want nor would find helpful! Furthermore the IPhone 7 GPS seems not as accurate as my current Forerunner 235 is. Perhaps Garmin could simply add the Nike Run Club app to the Venu watch repetoire.?

Agree. I just bought my Vivoactive 4 yesterday and am astonished it does not have such a basic feature, I spent hours and hours researching the difference between this and Forerunner 245 and this did not come up. It did not occur to me this feature would be missing given how basic it is - but it is essential. It means my phone strapped to my arm is still better for running than my new Garmin, in which case what is the point in having bought a Garmin?

  • Just came here to say that to my shock and disappointment this functionality is not available for Venu that I bought for my wife.

Having Fenix I was already disappointed that I can't use running courses on Venu, but I thought... Ok, I guess they selected some features to differentiate lineups.

Lack of audio prompts is ridiculous. Returning this watch tomorrow.

What is funny, is Garmin trying to "segment" their offerings -> I can get Audio Coach at Forerunner 245, but can't get skiing there. I can get it in Venu. Garmin thinks they can convince customers to buy higher tier watch. Well, not always. My wife just rolled her eyes and got back to run with her phone with Endomondo.

  • Don't know if it will do much good, but I'd also like to express my dismay of finding out there are no audio prompts after using it for the first time today.

I did significant research on several devices and found that the Vemu had the perfect balance of features that I needed... Except no where did I come across information about audio prompts. I assumed (wrongly) that having Bluetooth headphones connected would mean that their would be other feedback via audio.

Disappointed. Maybe we'll see features added in an update. Or maybe they'll tell us to fork out more money on another watch.
