GPS not accurate anymore.

I've had my Venu for about 3 months, and GPS has always been accurate to within a few meters up until late December. Suddenly now I'm getting wonky GPS measurements on all of my runs, which is very irritating as it throws everything off.

For example: here's one from a 4.5 mile run that was so off the mark that it recorded me doing more than 5 miles:

Now here's one from early December where I ran 3 miles, and it kept the laps tight and tracked it right on the money:

Most of my runs have been a lot closer to the 2nd one. Every once in a while it might be a little off, but nothing to the degree that it has been over the past couple of weeks. I haven't made any changes to anything. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Connect your watch to a computer then delete REMOTESW folder. This contains the satellite data, which possibly could be the issue.

    From a PC:

    • Click Window's start button
    • Click (My) Computer (This PC on Windows 8 or 10)
    • Double-click Garmin device drive
    • Double-click Garmin folder
    • Delete the REMOTESW folder
    • Right-click on Garmin device drive
    • Select Eject
    • Unplug device from computer
    • Sync your device with Garmin Express or Garmin Connect Mobile

A new REMOTESW folder will get created and an epo.bin file within.

Also, are you using GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, or some combination of those?

  • Thanks, I will try this when I get home tonight.

It looks like it is set to use GPS+GLONASS.  Is this sub-optimal?

  • In my experience and location GPS alone (left) has better results than GPS+GLONASS (right)

  • Well, no luck. I deleted the folder and switched to just GPS, and the mileage was still way off.

You might be in a zone where the military is messing with the GPS.  later this month much of the Southeast US will be affected from time to time over the course of a week.

  • Just thought I would mention that for whatever reason my GPS is back to being dead-on accurate. I don't think it was the updates because I still had problems afterwards, but I've done several runs since the middle of last week that have been right on the money.

  • Maybe the satellites were having issues in your area.Thinking
