Recovery of fit files using MTP device connection

Hi All,

I accidentally discarded an activity today and so looked on this forum to try and recover the fit file. I am able to connect to the watch using the MTP device connectivity and I can see the GARMIN folder. However, when I try and point the recovery software to to the device, it cant seem to find it. Is there a way to get MTP devices to connect as Mass storage devices?

My thought is no, but no one has explicitly said it in the forums - so just checking if I should give up trying to recover the activity.

Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this won't work with garmin devices that have MTP. On those devices there is no choice between "Garmin mode" and "Mass storage mode". You can only choose…

Using MTP you can connect to Windows and transfer files.

Well if you want it as a drive, use https://www.mtpdrive.com/index.html perhaps ?

You miss the point. OP doesn't want it as a drive. He wants it as a USB mass storage device. OP wants to recover a deleted file. File recovery tools need direct access to the file system. Such tools work if the device is a mass storage device, but won't work over MTP no matter what.

Ah, access to the FAT table, indeed that is guarded and not available, sorry I misunderstood, thought it was a corrupted FIT file.

There is a section in this FAQ that will show you to manually engage Mass Storage Mode on our devices: My vívo or Venu Watch is Not Found by Garmin Express

That is correct! I only provided the above link as the Venu Sq can be put into mass storage mode.However, there are other Garmin devices that will not have the option to go into mass storage mode.
