Garmin Venu SQ?

Hi All, My FitBit Versa 2 finally died and Im in need of a new smartwatch/tracker. I really liked my FitBit: it fit my small wrist, the app interface works well/is intuitive, I have years of stored data, and the fitness tracking was good enough.. But the lack of ability to store music is what is making me look to the similarly priced Garmin Venu SQ-music. The new versa 3 finally has GPS built in but it still doesn't allow music download/ spotify use (ugh). It didn't bother me before because I was so used to bringing my phone with me on runs for the GPS and music capabilities but its appealing to think I wont have to do that anymore lol

  • Not sure what your question is but the Venu line is great.  Love the display on both the SQ and round Venu.  I think functionality wise they’re pretty close to the FitBit’s and I like you don’t have to pay to have all of your information.  Some people complain about the sleep tracking accuracy on the Venu but I personally haven’t had an issue.  The text on the SQ will be smaller then what you’re used to “I think” but the Venu round has good sized text.  I don’t use the music function but know that as long as your have the premium version of Spotify you’ll be able to use it with the watch on runs etc without your phone.

  • How does it compare to a Vivoactive 4? Is it equivalent with a better screen or is it closer to the Vivoactive 3 again with a better screen?

  • Generally, Venu 2 is a Vivoactive 4 with different type of display, however the Venu SQ specifically lacks some premium features, that can be found on the regular Venu or Vivoactive.

  • Thx,

    Premium features such as....?

A local vendor has the SQ on sale this week and I'm thinking about it.

  • Premium features such as....?
    • Sleep score
    • Health snapshot
    • Barometric altimeter
    • Gyroscope
    • Workout animations

Perhaps something else as well. Also please note, that contrary to the Venu2/Vivoactive4, the Venu SQ comes in music and non-music flavors.

  • It’s basically the Venu but without a few features such as an altimeter (doesn’t count floors) uses GPS instead for elevation.  It doesn’t have the workout animations as mentioned.

Neither the regular Venu or SQ has the health snapshot or a sleep “score”, that didn’t become a feature until the Venu 2.  They both do track sleep.  It shows up in Garmin Connect, not as a widget or glance on the watch face itself.  It has an LCD screen vs AMOLED which is WAY better then the vivo line screen.

Other then those features which may or may not be of importance to you it’s a great watch at a significantly reduced price (compared to the Venu and Venu 2).

  • Barometric altimeter is something I use regularly on my VA3 although there are times when the results are wacky. What's the gyroscope used for?

Disappointed it's an LCD screen and not AMOLED. I may just stick with my VA3 that's been great since July 2019.

  • The gyroscope helps detect movements like between running and cycling, I think.  The LCD screen is actually pretty nice.  I have both the SQ and the original Venu.  Personally I’d say to get the original Venu if you like your VA3.

  • Makes sense about the gyroscope.

I was thinking about the SQ simply because it was on sale.

  • Disappointed it's an LCD screen and not AMOLED

It's an LCD, but not like the transflective MIP LCD that is found on other garmin watches. It looks almost like an amoled. It is bright and vivid in colors. In most circumstances it is hard to tell the difference.
