Why doesn’t the custom workout feature work on the venu sq?it won’t send my custom swim workout to my device.

My Venu Sq says it’s not compatible to download workouts? Why is this feature available if I can’t use it? I tried to create a custom swim workout and it wouldn’t send it to my device. I followed all instructions on the connect app and the computer but for some reason it says my device isn’t compatible? I’m very upset with this because I don’t see the point in having the features available if they don’t work on all devices. Really frustrating that everything has to connect to my computer and not the watch.I should be able to do more with the watch. It was given to me as a gift so I’ll use it but honestly won’t recommend to anyone doesn’t do much of anything.

  • Pretty much all functions are available in Garmin Connect no matter the watch you have. If you want all functions you need to get one of the top Forerunner or Fenix models.

Venu Sq are compatible with workouts, but the Swim type might not be compatible. Try the other types.

  • Thank You. I use the watch to swim and walk, because that’s pretty much all I do. It would have been nice to know I can’t create my own  swim workouts, as well as water workouts but there isn’t an option for that either. It was given to me as a gift. I wouldn’t have purchased it myself. Is there something in the connect IQ store I may be able to download to the watch?

  • It makes no sense to me why the Venu line is excluded from some custom workouts, this link shows what watches support what activity:

  • I don't know about Connect IQ. There is nothing in Connect IQ that will enable swim workouts from Garmin Connect.

  • Ok thanks. So ridiculous that this feature doesn’t work on any watch on the venu line  for swim workouts or anything otherwise.  I found several complaints about this on here on several Garmin devices. Would love to know why this is the case? What’s the point of this being a sports watch if you can’t customize anything to meet your needs? Not everyone can do the same workouts.

  • Venu and Vivo are more lifestyle smartwatches and activity trackers and less advanced sports watches. They miss many functions compared to the Forerunner and Fenix lines that are the more advanced sports watches.

  • This post is a few weeks old, but I wanted to share my experience.  I have created workouts that were sent to my Venu Sq.  I wonder if you need to call it a 'custom' workout.  What I have done is used one of the work descriptions offered and created my workout on that basis.  I've created STs, cardio, and yoga sessions this way and it seems to be working well.  The only odd thing is that my treadmill work out is called a run.  The data is still good though ever thing is being reported.

  • Hi thank you for responding. When I put it in as a custom workout it still tells me my watch isn’t compatible with this feature? Not sure why but I didn’t buy the watch it was given to me as a gift. Kind  of frustrating that it really doesn’t do much but a general pool swim because I do everything in the water due to having Cerebral Palsy and still can’t figure out how to put my water aerobics workout in either because the watch isn’t compatible with the custom workout feature for some reason. Very disappointing. I’m only using it because it was given to me. I wouldn’t recommend this watch to anyone who does a lot in the water.

  • I am suggesting that you can use one of the other workout types and chose the warm up, work, cool down with best-fit choices from the list.  As an example, if the water exercise is walking / running in the water, you could use the 'walk' or 'run' as an exercise type, or another choice like walk high step. Pick an exercise type that is closest to what you are doing and write in the notes what you are actually doing.  The Pilates and Yoga exercise types offer choices in range of motion, balance, breathing, resistance.  After saving the exercise, it can be sent to the Venu SQ and used.  Just because you are in water doesn't mean you have to use the Pool Swim workout title.   If you are not needing the muscle map, you could even select the 'Cardio' workout type, then call each part of your exercise routine a cardio. Then in the notes, say what is the movement.
