Small icons (e.g. House, car, squirrel, tent) appear

Since yesterday small icons (e.g. House, car, squirrel, tent) keep appearing after my Garmin Venu Sq has located my position.
If i click on an icon, nothing happens. What is the function of these icons?

These are the "Save location" icons. See this section in the manual (specifically point 5):

Hello 3346362. Do these icons appear in the Garmin Connect mobile app or on the watch?

However, why they keep appearing to you and why nothing happens on click is unclear to me.

tmk2is correct about the "Save Location" screen. You can use the "Back" button (bottom right) to back out of that screen, or choose one of the icons if you actually do wish to drop a pin/save a location.
