Have you updated it with Garmin Express? The software in the watch is likely old if it is a brand new watch.

Then put it outside for a long time and check on it from time to time and see if it got GPS.
Hi, my question is the same. Thanks for e7andy, I had downloaded the Garmin Express. I tried at home for a "Run", but the watch says 'Wait for GPS'. May i know what happens next, because it doesn't seem it is activating the GPS.
Please follow steps below for the GPS connection issue described above:
You will want to perform this GPS Soak somewhere like a back yard where there is a clear view of the sky and where it would not be at risk of someone walking by, seeing it, and taking it. I'd like you to put the watch into "Run" mode and start to acquire a GPS signal. Let it sit in that same spot for up to 20 minutes. Even if it takes 5-10 minutes to connect during this time, it will have another 10-15 minutes to be stationary (since you aren't beginning a run) and "soak" up the GPS location data. You may come back to the watch to find it is back at the time and date screen and that is fine. That means that it acquired GPS signal, soaked, and timed out since you did not start the activity. That is exactly what we are trying to accomplish. If you come back to the watch in 20 minutes and find it still ready to start an activity and it has acquired a GPS signal, it is also ok to stop the soak process and return to the time and date screen using the back button. After this process, go out on your next run like normal and see how the watch responds.
Moving forward, syncing the watch with the Garmin Connect mobile app or with Garmin Express before going outside to connect to GPS should speed up the GPS connection time.
Thank so much for the info.
