Using Venu SQ with NordicTrack ski machine & iPhone app

New Venu SQ user here.

When tracking exercise without GPS on a ski machine is it possible to monitor Intensity minutes & heart rate zone minutes real-time on the iPhone app?

I found an app on ConnectIQ called hHRPie that lets me do it on my SQ device, but I'd like to display it on my iPhone so I don't have to stop my arm movement to see the read out. I'm trying to monitor exercise Intensity minutes to make sure I've reached my goal for the exercise.

Also, can anyone recommend an exercise type for tracking indoor skiing? I've been using Elliptical so the arm movement triggers the stride count, but wondered if there is a better choice.

Thanks

  • Maybe Cross Country Ski (XC Ski) would be a good choice?  That is available on the SQ without an app.  Not sure about the iPhone question.

  • Thanks - Checked it out, but user docs state it works only for outdoor skiing, so I’ll have to stick with using Elliptical.

It turns out that the latest version of the Garmin Connect iPhone app Intensity Minutes card will actually display real-time instantaneous heart rate, HR zone, & cumulative Intensity Minutes for the week so I can get the exercise IM’s by subtraction.

  • The intensity minutes card in the app shows how many minutes for each day and also for the week and month in the iPhone.  You can also see your intensity minutes for a workout in the “My day” widget on the SQ.

  • What’s interesting is that the weekly total IM on the left of the card updates real-time during an activity like the pulse/HR zone indicator. The daily number on the RHS of the card seems to update only after the exercise is ended. I’m learning.
