My Venu Sq has been losing data the since the last update and reset overnight

Possibly not connected, but since the last firmware update things have been buggy.

Earlier in the week I suddenly found the watch had gone from 50% charge to 4% in one day. I lost most of a day of data on Thursday, including a 1,5 hour weightlifting session. Yesterday (Friday) it failed to save/synch my walk. This morning I woke up to find it reset itself back to factory default and went from 60% charge to 20%. I've also had to restart it a little more often as its losing synch with my phone.

Any idea what's wrong and if it's the firmware or my watch?

  • Hello, you are not the only one, my battery also uses a lot, even without using GPS, yesterday the same in a few hours under 94% to 64% in an afternoon in which I practically do not use the clock, already with version 2.80 I was spending more than what was promised in its characteristics, in this 2.90 consumption has intensified and it is something that I do not understand because it is a very minor update that does not incorporate new functionalities or anything similar, it only solves a previous bug and from what it seems generates new ones… ..

  • I am also having serious issues with the new update. I am getting intensity minutes for doing nothing and not getting them when I am doing something intense. I reset the watch completely, data and factory reset, and it is still not working right. The body battery is also wrong. I woke up with 5% battery. WOKE UP... umm...

It is also crashing and causing me to lose hours of data just like you said above. I have lost heart rate data and intensity minutes which I work hard for. I missed my goal last week because of this nonsense. I am seriously considering switching away from Garmin.

Firmware updates that make things worse are so frustrating, I just want to go back. Can I download the old firmware?

  • I’d contact support and start an online chat with them.  Support.garmin.com

  • Similar issues this month.  I've started an activity, and when complete hit stop and save.  Then all of a sudden the watch reboots on its own.  Activity doesn't sync but shows in the folder.  Won't manually sync either.  Also, twice now during an activity, it has decided to stop on its own which has caused me to loose kms.  I've been going back and forth with Garmin support on this and still have to find a resolution.   I've lost sleep over this - training for a week long bike ride and all our training kms count.

  • Yeah, you are telling me! I have been so pissed off at Garmin recently. I contacted support and they said to change this one setting which wasn't the problem clearly but they just wanted me to go away. I have had my watch crash many times, usually when an activity is ending and I am not the most delicate I can be with the stupid confirmation screen. I don't want to confirm every time. Just save the damn activity! I have to tap it so gently and be very patient for it to save or it will crash. If i tap twice or hit the back button, oh no, don't do that. If i try to discard an activity, oh no, don't even try. just confirm then delete it. Since the last firmware update I have reset the watch about 5 times, lost my heart rate data about 3 times, had ridiculous vigorous minute calculations, and had it crash about 4 times. I have been researching other watches over this. All I really care about it my intensity minutes and tracking my activities and this is what is a problem. There intensity minute algorithm is either not working or working poorly. I reset the watch when it isn't working and SOMETIMES this fixes it (kinda) but it still has some weird calculations. A few days ago it gave me 331 minutes over 4 hours. Yes, I did a lot of cardio the first hour but the rest did not warrant that. 134 vigorous minutes, no, now way. I don't trust this watch anymore. I asked them if i could downgrade the firmware, they just said "no".

  • once again today the watch restarted and i lost 2 hours of heart rate data. why? because when i created a new activity and then tried to scroll to the heart rate zone page of the activity, it didnt respond immediately so i swiped twice!

i have had this kind of thing crash my phone so much recently. if there is a lag on the watch (so often) and i am not super patient and tap twice or swipe twice, it crashes.

i feel like i am walking on eggshells with this watch. i tap it lightly and wait whenever i need to do something. i am so scared it will crash. it crashes about 3 times per week now since the 2.9 firmware update.

  • OP here - mine's been stable again since the factory reset. If you're having trouble, might be worth trying to do one yoursel.

  • Hello, I was also given the solution in Garmin Support to reset the clock to factory settings, the symptoms that I had since the update were high battery consumption that seems to be solved, reduction of the steps counted randomly , I am observing this, reboots and crashes, so far since the reset I have not had any.

    • Today again the watch has crashed (blue triangle) without touching it, it has been during an activity of a Garmin 10k training plan, it is the second time it has done it in the same circumstances one before doing a factory reset and another later, I'm afraid this fw is not going well at all
  • i've reset it so many times. it is giving my intensity minutes now but it still crashes sometimes.
