Automatic Activity Tracking

Hi, thinking about getting my wife a Venu sq. Currently she just records an activity on Strava on her phone but she’d like something to count steps and HR etc.

She’s not great with tech so ideally it would be able to track walks (using GPS) to the shops etc automatically and then upload to Garmin > Strava.

Can the Venu do that? I know my fenix 6x Pro can NOT automatically track a walk.

  • Yes it has Move IQ which when turned on matches familiar patterns such as biking, running, elliptical, walking etc.  For walking and running you turn on “Auto Activity Start” and set a minimum threshold of movement for it to record a timed activity.  With walking you set 5, 10, or 15 minutes of continuous walking.  So if you walk for a few minutes then stop and do something it won’t record that 3 minutes but if you’re out strolling, walking and are moving for 5 minutes and then stop somewhere it will record that segment and the threshold timer will start over again.  Honestly I am not sure if it uses GPS when Auto Activity is used as I rarely use it.  The activities it records will appear not only in the timeline but in the activities list for the day and will show whether or not a route was recorded via GPS.

Either way it will record all her steps and HR data 24/7 and if she chooses to, starting a walking “activity” is as easy as pressing the A button and choosing walk and Go.

  • Hi, thanks for the detailed reply. Sounds like it will do what she wants either automatically or fairly easily manually.

One question with the Activity Thresholds, if she did say a 15 minute walk and had the threshold set at 5 minutes, does it show as a 15 minute walk or just a 10 minute walk (does it include the threshold time)?

  • It should show as a 15 min walk and should include the threshold time.
