Controls menu not coming up on Venu sq

How do I get the controls menu to come up on the Venu Sq? I understand you hold the A (top right) button for 2 seconds and it should come up but this is not happening for me. The other shortcuts such as one click to workouts and holding down for 5+ prompts and emergency are working. Does anyone know if the controls menu could have been toggled off mistakenly and how I could get it back? Thanks in advance!

  • Is this a new watch or was it working before and its not now? I don’t think there is an option to turn off the controls menu.  Try powering on and off manually by holding the A button longer then the safety and tracking alert until it powers off (about 5 seconds or so).  Hold the A button to power back on and see if it is working.

Hi Cindy - it is a new watch and the menu had worked initially and then suddenly stopped. I took your advice and turned the device off and back on and it worked! Thank you for your reply!

I think the latest firmware update removed the controls menu, I have two watches, and it's missing from both of them after update.

  • They should not be missing.  Try powering on and off, which I mention in my above post.

I had the same problem. My Venu Sq used to bring up the controls menu by holding the A button for 2 seconds. After the updates a few weeks ago, it no longer did this. If I press and hold the A button, the first thing that appears (after about 5 seconds) is the incident (safety and tracking) option. Holding the A button for 2 seconds and releasing does nothing.

I know of no other way to easily access the controls menu. Garmin, please do a better job of testing your updates before you send them out. I was able to fix the problem by powering off the watch as CindiL suggested.

In terms of powering off the watch, I originally didn’t know how to do this if I couldn’t access the controls menu. (There is definitely a power off icon in the controls menu; it is in the center of my nine controls icons). I eventually found that holding the A button down for 15 seconds turns the watch off (ignore the safety and tracking menu and just keep holding the button). This is similar to what CindiL suggested but I wasn’t clear on her instructions until reading about the procedure at www8.garmin.com/.../GUID-FE7137DB-B929-4BD6-B76F-EC5E27AD50B3.html

  • Hi all

    I had the same problem.

Controls menu NOT working after holding buttin A for 2 seconds.

I think this happens because of update OR after initiating emergency contacts.

Hold button A for 5 secinds = emergency

    SOLUTION

Turnjng device off.. can't via controls menu.

But you can turn off by pressing A 15 seconds

    BUT HOW I FIXED IT

opened garmin app .. connect bluetooth, pair device

In the app i went to controls menu

Click on the watch (logo next to profile pic)

    Then Appearence

    Then control menu

    I made some changes

THEN PRESS SYNCHRONISATION LOGO RIGHT ABOVE TOP CORNER

    Sync and test it

Press A for 2 seconds on watch and it WORKED AGAIN

Even after closing app and bluetooth it still works
