Rider weight on a vector 3?

Hi all looking at buying a set of power meter pedals, the problem I have is I'm not built like a Whippet!

Just wondered if anybody of similar build quality had a set and could share any experiences with them.

Garmin state 105 kg weight limit I'm pushing that, I see some of the competitors state 120 kg weight but they don't seem to support Platform Centre Offset like the Vector 3.

I'm recovering from a knee injury and subsequent surgery with cycling being a major part if my rehad I do think that PCO could aid me with finding a repeatable setup but there quite a big investment for me as I'm sure they are for most, so as much advice or experience shared greatly appreciated.

Cheers in advance.

  • If you're road cycling (they are road pedals) then your weight is almost always in the saddle. They ought to specify a force for the pedals - a 60KG cyclist pushing 800W exerts the same force as a 120KG cyclist pushing 800W. I'd say you're fine.

  • That's not quite right as it depends on the cadence. Consider 120Kg cyclist doing a track stand compared to a 60kg one. They are both producing zero power but the 120Kg one is putting twice the force on the pedals. A mass of 1kg has a force of 10N, so a 120kg person exerts a force of 1200N where as a 60hg cyclist only exerts a force of 600N.

  • My point was that the force of 1200N of one person just standing on the pedals is the same as a lighter person pushing down with immense force while pulling up on the other pedal, handlebars etc. I'd suggest a fit 100KG person can exert more force on the pedal than an unfit 120KG person, hence weight has no real bearing on failure of the parts. The forces you quote are at rest so irrelevant in a component designed to take the force of pedalling

  • I’m not sure if you have already made a decision on these, but I have had vector 3 for about 18 months and fluctuate around the weight limit.  I can’t say I’ve noticed any issues, they have been very reliable for me.  Apart from the odd battery change they are basically fit and forget.
