Advanced Torque test question

Recently Ive found a difference in power between my Vector 3 and Tacx Neo, V3 shows about 7% lower power than Neo. So I decided to do an advanced torque test which is described here: Vector Power Meter Advanced Torque Test

Doing that when I measure torque on my left side pedal, I see the maximum torque value when the crank is not horizontal but slightly lower to the ground. And when I move the weight to the right pedal, maximum value is on the top of the circle, when the right crank looks to the sky (or maybe 5 degrees forward). Is everything correct with my pedals, settings or software? When I read the description of the test it says cranks should be horizontal (GPLama even uses level to adjust it). Should I do the same or I have to find the position of the crank with maximum torque value? What's wrong with my right pedal, why the maximum readings are 90 degrees up to the top?

I use Garmin Edge 1030 to assist me in measurements.

  • Did you do this immediately after you installed the batteries, or immediately after you installed the pedals on the cranks? It takes about 30 seconds of riding at normal cadences (say, 60 to 90) before the pedals figure out which way the spindles are oriented in the cranks.

No, I did it after several rides way longer than 30s. But I do it right after the calibration. Should I spin the pedals for 30+s after the calibration before applying weight?

  • That does not sound right. Can you send us a recent Edge or watch .fit file from a ride you did? Either post it here or send it to [email protected]

Your input re batteries pushed me to redo everything from the start. First I reminded that during the ride there was a notice that Edge lost the right pedal and it was not just once but two or three times. Power reporting was correct with both pedals switched on so I didn't mention it. But probably if the contact was not good it could reset angles of spindles after the ride. I could also occasionally push the reset angles button on my Edge when I was checking the device settings.

I took away batteries from both sides, carefully cleaned contacts of the pedals, put some oil between batteries and put it back. Then I connected pedals to my Edge, made a calibration and after it made a short ride about 2 min with 80-90 rpm.

After another calibration I put a weight on right pedal to check the torque value and then on the left and found that now everything is correct! Max value is when pedals are horizontal as it should be!

Will redo the ride to compare power readings with Neo and if the difference in power still exists will repeat the torque test.

Thank you for the right direction of my thoughts )))
