Power Dropout and Missing Right Sensor - my solution

Hi

I thought I put my two bits in, as to a solution for these power dropouts and right sensor missing problems that everyone seems to have. I used to do everything as suggested and still get dropouts. However, now I also add in a weekly 2 minute maintenance where I clean the side contact points (see attached) by just rubbing with a cloth and reinserting them. They seem to get a black layer on them.  This seems to solve my problems. I have been thinking about what this layer could be could be, and I may be over oiling the batteries.  I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere else in any of the forum.  If anyone else finds that this is a solution I would be interested in knowing.

  • This seems to be close to the right answer. I cleaned them as well as the surfaces inside the pedals and oiled them. They worked fine. In my pedals it looks that the surfaces inside the pedals create some sort of wear. Keeping my fingers crossed it's nothing serious.

There's a great business opportunity for someone: Garmin Vector 3 Maintenance Kit. Baby oil, toothpick. cloth and batteries for $50 ;-)

  • My right pedal failed with the H contacts broken, but also on close examination there were two small holes where the outer contacts touched the circuit board.

Interestingly the right pedal pedal had blackened material whilst the left pedal contained clear oil, not sure why this should be.

The total number of rides before the circuit board was replaced was 17 and over 45 hours.
