Dropouts and long delay for power meter to be picked up after a stop

Got a set of v3 vectors in January and had no issues, apart from odd power spike, until recently. Did the upgrade to V3.6 last weekend and fitted new batteries. Did ride on Thursday, no issues. Today’s ride dropping out through the ride sometimes for minutes at a time. Also, took a long time for my 1030 to pick up the vectors after a stop. Also getting power spikes. Had loads of issues in the past with v1 and v2 vectors and should have learned my lesson. However hoped that Garmin had sorted things out in the last 5 years but would appear not. Reading here tonight about the ‘oil’ and battery door fiascos is far from reassuring. Is this fixable or am i better not wasting my time and just go for a refund?

  • I've recently had similar, changed the batteries to the DL 1/3N type to ensure no 'hiccups' with the transfer. All OK, connect to 520 but then Right sensor missing - AGAIN - so replace the right side ones to the original LR6 sensor reappeared, but yesterday after a brief stop the pedals took around 10s to appear on the 520 - no spikes though.
I might add that I have both new doors and a new PCB in the right pedal after the terminal in the original broke
  • Spoke to Garmin support, need new battery doors and pcb. No chance I'm taking a screwdriver to these so they will be going back to retailer for repair or replacement. If they subsequently fail I will get a refund. Thought I'd be safe waiting over a year since they were released but not the case.
  • I’d bet my bottom dollar it’s the firmware update to 3.60. I started experiencing exactly the same symptoms after updating. They’re ok while pedalling, but after stopping at lights, coasting for a short while, or pausing the ride for a time (say 10 seconds or so?), they seem to go to sleep and take forever to wake up again (minutes sometimes), with the ‘sensor found’ message popping up.

Battery levels are ‘good’ according to Connect.

Midway through the ride the log starts showing a lot of left side resets. This is usually associated with battery contact interruptions. If you haven't done so, adding a drop of lubricant to each of the battery contact points is highly recommended (and is done at the factory) to prevent contact fretting.
  • That was the first time I'd changed the batteries and had put oil on the batteries and contacts. Midway was after a long stop and it got really bad then but prior to that I had issues with pedals getting picked up by he head unit at all, dropouts and spikes. At least that was what was being reflected on my 1030. Just got a message to say retailer have received the pedals back. I'd love these pedals to work but I do need something that is accurate, consistent and can just be depended on.

Same here... I've had non stop dropouts since the update... I'm also often getting huge spikes as they reconnect. So frustrating.
  • Funnily enough I upgraded to 3.6 prior to changing the batteries. On the first ride after upgrading I ‘lost’ the pedals after a stop. I put it down to the batteries, hence replacing them.

I have had the same problem, new batteries and the firmware upgrade (downgrade?) Anyone had a reply from Garmin on what to do?
  • I’ve just received a brand new replacement set which I’ve yet to fit. Not holding out any great hopes as to their longevity but would love to be proved wrong.

I have exactly the same issue and Garmin support have said they'll send replacement pedals. How long from the point you posted the old pedals to when you received the new ones did you have to wait?
