Vector 3, cleats issues

I'm having problems getting comfortable in my Vector 3 pedals. Coming from the red Shimano SPD-SL 0 degree float cleats which are rock solid, I find the Vector Keo grey/black 0 degree cleats to not be as solid. There is still some float. I'm also experiencing clicking noises which are driving my crazy. Especially noticeable when attempting proper kick/pull pedaling.
I've tried:
-Adjusting the tension.
-Greasing the contact points between cleat and pedal.
-Cleats are warping slightly when tightened to my shoes, but even after loosening the front bolts, clicking remains.
-Tried a different pair of shoes.
-Tried the red 6 degree cleats.

Anyone else with similar experiences, or ideas how to resolve?

I had this issue with the clicking and sometimes it sounded like creaking in which I tried everything you done and swapped cleats. New cleats held for a few rides but the clicking soon returned.

I was able to recreate the clicking just by having the shoe clipped in and moving it side to side (up and down angle) with my hand...

My pedals became faulty due to a battery contact issues and they were exchanged for a new set. So far it's been fine and I'm using the same old cleats I used on the last pedals that clicked...
