Lost My Cycling Dynamics Data!

Hi I have an Edge 1030 v6 firmware and V3 running 3.50.

Although initially I thought the upgrade of firmware on my Edge caused this looking through GC I see it started at V5, a few weeks back.

On the 1030, the screen that should show CD data does not display any values, however I'm getting power data as a single figure. Another screen shows left/right power is also blank, but I guess this comes under CD data.

I have a call open with Garmin and waiting for them to analyse my Garmin folder.

Has anyone else seen this and was there a fix?

Thanks in advance.
  • With the Edge connected to V3 go down into the sensor details and then Vector features and make sure that Cycling Dynamics is enabled. Note you must also be paired with Vector over ANT and not BLE to get Cycling Dynamics.
  • Thanks for the reply.

The Vector is connected over Ant+

Interesting as the "Vector Features" menu is empty.

    I'll update Garmin
  • This is consistent with your pedals having become unlinked or with the pairing information on your left pedal being corrupt.

On your Edge, go to the Vector sensor properties (sensors->Vector pedal ID). Scroll down and see if you have a button to 'Pair Right Power Sensor' or 'Unpair Right Power Sensor'.

If the option is to 'Pair', then click the button, and enter the seven digit ID etched into the right pedal spindle when prompted. Wait for the system to update and you should be good to go.

If the option is to 'unpair', then click that button. Wait for the system to update, and then you should now have the option to 'Pair' visible on the Edge screen. Click that button and follow the above procedure.

  • Progress...

The vector menu showed "Pair Right ….". After struggling with low light I entered the pedal number and the "Vector Features" showed information and I think the CD screen showed 0:00 for standing/seated time, which I'm sure was just blank before.

I'm out early on the bike so will see what happens.

Thanks to both of you for helping me out. So far I've been 100% happy with the pedals, however this may have to be part of my checks when heading out on a decent ride.

    Thanks again
  • Following my ride this morning, it was still the same.

Without going into details I was seeing inconsistent results when pairing/unpairing the right pedal. I then removed the Vector from the head unit and connected it back in. Currently it is showing CD data, but will wait to see if the pedal remains stable.
  • I own a forerunner 935 fw 10.10 and i do not see cycling dynamics. 935 is well coupled with vector 3 but no C.Dyn. data shows!!! Need to do or set something??
  • Couple things.
Do you have the dual sided Vector 3? If you have Vector 3S you won't get cycling dynamics
Is the right pedal paired? Try the procedure t_smit suggested above.
Is the 935 connected via Ant+ protocol instead of BLE? You must be connected over the Ant+ protocol in order to get cycling dynamics
Do you have cycling dynamics enabled on the 935? In the sensor settings, when connected to the Vector 3 pedals, you should see the option to enable or disable cycling dynamics. They are enabled by default but sometimes get turned off

I know this is the Vector 3 section - but since I had trouble with my Vector 2 pedals and searched the forums, I found this page described my problems best. I lost my Cycling Dynamics Data (CDD) after a couple of changes in my whole setup. So was not able to locate the problem but solved my issue of having thepedals not pairing/ not showing CDD. I had my total power displayed but data like balance and power phase were missing. In fact the whole "standard CDD"-data page displayed nothing during training. I changed batteries - no effect. I removed and tried to reconnect in my Edge 1030 and 820 - no effect. I noticed there were no options in the sensor menu about CDD. And: The left and right pedal was found seperately. So it was acting a single pedal setup and I had to decide which pedal was my power meter... Right pedal was 4 times blinking, left one 5. So there was no connection between the two (or was there...?).
I ended up in connecting the sensors with my PC using an ANT+ USB-Connector and Garmin's Vector Updater (https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=6575). The software was driving me crazy because it only found either my right or left pedal (removed batteries from one). So eliminating the connection (that even more confusingly was obviously recognized by the software - but which I could not see) via the given option (you have to enter the ID of the not identified pedal) helped. The ID is laserprinted on the pedal (or note it from connection infos, your Edge device, etc.). After doing that I could reestablish a connection between the two pedals via the software again. I updated both with the actual firmware again (there was an option to reinstall the existing FW).
After doing that all is working as it should. What caused the problem? Don't know - but this solution solved it. Sharing is caring - feel free to give a thumbs up if you like my comment.
