Vector 3's appearing as a Kickr on a Wahoo BOLT?

This is odd. I had my Vectors replaced by Garmin, and a brand new set has turned up today. I also had a new BOLT sent to me as my previous one the screen got damaged.

Previously, my Vectors would show up as Vectors on my BOLT, but I can't run that same test as I don't have either of those units have now been changed.

What's odd though is they appear fine on the Garmin Connect screen - two individual pedals, but in the Android version of the Wahoo Element app and on the BOLT they show us a KICKR trainer with an indoor trainer logo, and connected using an ANT+ ID.

Are the pedals using a wrong ANT+ ID and why is the Wahoo app recognising them as a KICKR?

I note the BOLT is up to date with the latest version: BOLT WB09-1985 - 14 August, 2018. So are the pedals (3.50) and so is the (Android) app (1.14.5.3).

I tested them, and I'm getting clear left/right pedal metrics though?

Is this a Garmin or a Wahoo issue. Presume it's a Wahoo issue?

Cheers

Same issue here. Recently received a new set of Vectors direct from Garmin that pair up as 'Kickr'. Previous pedals paired as Vectors. I presume it is a Wahoo issue.

Give 1 legged pedal drills a try. I get data for both pedals when only pedaling w/ my right leg. Seems this shouldn't occur. I suspect this is a Garmin issue.

I just did a quick test and the pedals aren't being processed as left/right correctly. When I pedal with the left it's reporting a 100% left balance, when I pedal with both it reports a 50/50 balance but when I pedal with the right it's not picking it up any power.
  • Are you paired to the Vector pedals over ANT of BLE?

The ANT+ profile has a section for manufacturer information. The Vector pedals do correctly transmit that the manufacturer is Garmin (Manufacturer code =1).

The balance issue sounds like a Wahoo issue with handling power data with a 0% left side balance. Balance information is sent as a % of the left side. The right side value is inferred from the left side value.

Could you post the FIT file from the Wahoo where you did the one legged drills?

    It's paired over Ant+.

What's weird is the Right pedal data is not showing up on the BOLT when pedalling with it, but the power is being displayed.

Attached is the FIT file. Lap 1 is left pedal, lap 2 right pedal, lap 3 both pedals.
  • The device_info record correctly shows the manufacturer for the power meter (ANT type = 11) is Garmin (value =1). Wahoo appears to be decoding this value incorrectly.

  • The data in the FIT file shows power when you are doing the right legged drill, so it looks like a display issue on the Wahoo.

You can see below that you have power, left/right balance of zero (e.g. no power from the left side). left pedal smoothness and torque is zero , which is correct and you have right side pedal smoothness and torque value. So the data in the file is correct.

OK. They key question is that is the L/R pedal balance being recorded correctly, rather than being displayed correctly? I think it's being captured fine? Wahoo just need to update their firmware to not recognise the pedals as Kickr which they should be doing from what I have heard from them.

Edit it looks like you've answered this above. Have reported this all onto Wahoo, hopefully for a quick fix.

    Thank you!

Data from my FIT file (from a Wahoo) shows data isn't being captured. Link to a forum post w/ screenshots below.
    https://forums.garmin.com/forum/into-sports/cycling/vector-3/1396654-wahoo-elemnt-bolt-users-able-to-replicate-these-issues

I haven't seen any Garmin head unit users report a similar issue, so maybe it is with Wahoo.
  • Difficult to tell where the problem lies without having access to a log of the ANT traffic received by the head unit. I'm surprised that Wahoo has no logging mechanism as it makes any type of problem solving from customer data almost impossible.
