Been using the V3's for around 3-4 months now with no issues (Apart from the 1st update). Today when leaving work to commute home, within 5 mins I got the 'missing right sensor' message. Strange I thought, as the batteries were only changed a couple of weeks ago. Once I got out the traffic and into the country single track lanes I heard an intermittent squeak. I assumed a jockey wheel and got home.
I changed the batteries in the left side (this would be the 4th change), this time however the small pieces of insulation tape came off with the removal of the batteries and I couldn't get them to stick back on - with help from the forum I used a small piece of insulation tape round the batteries and reinstalled.
I then turned the bike around and started on the right side. This time one of the insulation tape pieces cam out as well and the other one moved out of position - again, these could not be re-affixed, but worse, when I turned the pedal to het it in a better position to work on, it was clear the bearing was binding. It was always a bit stiffer than the left, but I reckoned it would loosen off with time.
I removed the pedal from the spindle (No way was the inner nut torqued to the advised 10Nm - nipped up at most I would reckon, I mention this for later in the saga). The pedal slipped off the spindle with no problem at all and was surprised to find that that everything was well greased and the grease was clean. I cleaned everything as per the manual, re-greased and re-assembled the securing nut finger tight, it was obvious that there is a problem with a bearing. I added some more grease inside the pedal body as I had no choice but to put it back together. At this point as also pointed out by another forum member, it appears that the securing nut is made of cheese. About 6 Nm was enough to distort the battery carriage screw holes. In the end I got it all back together, but there is a definite problem with the pedal bearing and securing nut and 2 x new style battery cover doors.
I'm in the UK, should a call to Garmin support be my 1st port of call to see about getting this sorted out?
