Buy or wait?

Garmin should i wait for the next batch to be available (in the middle of June) or the batch after that? im thinking about the problems users are having with the battery doors.

I suggest you not buy the Vector 3...at least not yet. Garmin is still struggling to figure out why they don't work. If you buy now you will have very expensive, heavy pedals that provide no useful information like the rest of us. I have a lot of Garmin gear and have always had good luck with it, this is the first time I have been disappointed with Garmin.
  • Thanks guys, I also have lot of Garmin gear and everything is working, so I will wait and see what happens with Vector 3 development :(
  • FWIW, I pre-ordred mine and they work great. I did get the low battery warning a bit earlier than I'd expect.

I swapped the batteries taking into account the tips listed by Garmin in this forum and they have continued to work well. The caps are somewhat delicate, I treated it as such.

Garmin support, for me, has always been helpful in the past. It seems they are swapping out battery caps as quickly as they can make them. The battery cap swap is straightforward and seems to be the focus of all the issues. The rest of the pedal appears solid.

In contrast my Gen1 stages always had trouble getting data to my watch or bike computer. There was no fix for this, poor RF performance was a design flaw.

If you want to train this season with power and in the USA order from REI and take advantage of their 1yr exchange policy if something goes horribly wrong.

  • I got my Vector 3S from REI in mid December. I see REI no longer has the Vector 3. Other than battery life being short I have not had any troubles with the Vector 3S. I am on my first Duracell single lithium battery and it seems to be lasting much longer (currently over 70 hours) than the dual OEM battery.

Ok Thanks, i live in Sweden so i will have to wait to middle of June if i want to get my hand on them. So i have some time to think and if i know Garmin then Vector 3 pedals will be available first in July hehehe so maybe i will get the new batch with allready exchanged "battery doors"

Don't wait, don't buy. Garmin had some initial issues with their original Vector pedals several years ago. They eventually came out with the model 3 which people were hopeful about. Based on all the common issues out there, Garmin has created their worst power meter yet.
I would recommend the Powertap P1.
  • Don't forget, forums are generally used for support, for people who have issues, those who don't, generally don't come here and well... they don't complain everything works. :-)

I have no issues with my V3, besides the batteries (after replacing original ones, which lasted over 100 hours), but still trying to figure out if it's the battery brand (GP).
  • I agree, I think. I pre-ordered (paid in full) my V3 pedals on 5-September, and after the estimated delivery dates continuously pushed back, I finally cancelled the order in February. Which I was pretty happy about when I saw what transpired here in the forums.

But having said that, the Edge 1030 forums is also a disaster area in terms of PR for the product, and yet my 1030 has worked pretty well flawlessly since I got it in October. I had one problem with the latest FW version, so rolled that back, but I can't fault the hardware which you wouldn't think possible reading those forums.

But having said THAT, I think I'll wait for the next batch of V3, when they are being shipped with the new doors. Plus, and this is a major factor for holding the required A$1499 in my bank account a little longer, we're moving into winter here down under, so the urgency to get them has dwindled a bit.

I just looked around online and found a set of pedals in stock. Yes, I had a few drop outs until I understood and corrected the problem (see the thread I started). Since then they’ve been flawless and I’m so glad I didn’t wait!
