Vector 3 Dropouts, Right Sensor Missing, Frustrations, and loose battery cover!

Hello all! I purchased my Vector 3 pedals from Competitive Cyclist a few months ago, back in February and was pretty excited to train with power. These were a substantial investment and my first ever power meter so I was pretty excited. However, first outing with them and I received the dreaded "Right Sensor Missing" message. I thought, you know, its a new product maybe a software bug. So I carried on, hoping software updates were on the way to fix it. Now, up to V3.30 of software, I still get the right pedal dropping out. And after doing some googling... I'm definitely not the only one.

Now, come Friday May 11th, I went on a ride (ended up being a total disaster, Di2 locked out, and my vectors were acting up the entire ride, rendering my Edge 520 useless with the error message covering almost all my fields). I decided to take a gentle cruise down to the LBS to have them look at why my Di2 quit working. I am uploading the fit file for anyone (OR GARMIN!) to look at. But more to the point was I received a low battery warning message. So after I got my Di2 working and got back home, I replaced the battery. Left cover came off and back on, no problem. Tightened to snug. The right cap came off okay but when I put it back on, it starts catching then gets loose. I have it on now, where it's "tight" but if you try to torque it to the 2 N.m spec, it'll just spin.... that's not super great for a $1,000 set of pedals Garmin.

Anyway, I called Garmin this morning, the C.S. rep said take a look at the threads inside the pedal, so I'll do that tonight, email Garmin the photos and post them on here.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do here? I know Garmin is sending us new battery covers... still waiting on mine. But could my pedal just be completely defective???
  • I hand tight mine. There is a point when hand tightening that you will feel the thread will hit a wall.
I trust my hand torquing abilities that a nm torque wrench with a +/-2% accuracy in this low torque tightening personally.

I understand that but yours comes to a definite stop. My right pedal battery cap does not.

I had all the problems that you describe. My pedals were gone to the warranty and after a month all that i know is that i will get a new pair. The future to this pedals it seems really bad, lets wait and see.

  • So, in the time we have power meters that are not working properly, what are we supposed to do? When you have been training with power for several years and then all of a sudden you do not have accurate power readings or no power readings at all, dose not do much for your confidence especially if you are competing. Garmin has really let us down on this issue, and their lack of communication does not help at all.
  • if none of the suggestions in the threads work then either exchange then for a new pair or buy something different.
  • That is great advice chunky wizard. I do have a RMA dated June 15th. So between now and then I am without a properly functioning power meter. So, what you suggest now?
  • If you have been training with power for 2 years you should know what your zones feel like and if you've been using HR that should give a good indication as well so I suggest you just get on your bike a go do a workout.

As far as there being no communication I believe it was just yesterday t-smit replied to a post of yours and if you read through the forum there are more responses from Garmin than in the past. It's has been stated many times they know there is an issue and they are working on it.
  • Thanks Bart, that takes care of all my issues. I think I'll just go for a ride now.
  • To all those that are having problems with "right sensor missing" do not send it to garmin since there is no solution yet. Wait for garmin to come up with hardware fix and then send it. Use cork fix for now .
  • :mad:I had a very bad expèrience on these pedals.
They cannot be found from my Edge 10340, and once detected the readings are very poor.

I did return them to garmin and once back they had same issues, so I have returned back again to Garmin on May the 8th and today May the 23rd I have heard nothing from Garmin as yet.

This is called in my country "FRAUD" very bad product and service. All my sports gear was GArmin but as from now on I will buy nothing from this company and I will shoou loud how bad they treat me.
