Crank Lenght 222mm? Drop outs?

I have some trouble with my vector 3 pedals.
It is not possible to take my bike an start riding without configure the pedals every time for some minutes.

With 99% i get to high power values (~ +100W). If i check the crank length with the Garmin App i can see that there is a crank length of 210 or 222mm displayed.
I am using it with my wahoo elmnt bold and i configured here my correct crank length of 170. But i can see here also a false crank length at the next ride with 172,5mm.
In addition i think i have also dropeouts while riding for some seconds.

I wrote the garmin support for over a week, but i didnt get any response.

At the moment i am really angry about it. I have also a power2max at my other bike without any trouble since the last 4-5 years.
  • Thanks for starting this thread.
I too have noticed the 222mm crank length issue. It seems that I set the crank length in the GC app and it doesn't seem to stick.

What are you using for a head unit?

Settings from a head unit will typically overwrite Vector 3's cranklength setting.
The GC setting for crank length is only intended for situations where you are using Vector 3 with an application (such as Zwift) that does not try to set the crank length itself.

    Some detail questions:
What crank length value are you trying to set?
If you try to set some different crank lengths, such as 160, 170, 180, 190, what does GCM report in each case?

Edit: If you enter a crank length of 115 mm on the Wahoo, what does GCM report?

I’ve experienced the 222 crank length issue too. Thankfully, not the dropouts.

interesting to hear that there is a need and facility to set the crank length on the Wahoo Elemnt Bolt. If so, how is this done? ????
  • Would be interested to find out how to do this on the Bolt. I can only seem to calibrate and nothing else. You need to use GCM or an Edge device as far as I can see to set the crank length.
  • Sorry I just looked into this more... not a Bolt user. Apparently this is not (yet) a supported capability on the Bolt. It sounds like GCM is mis-configuring the crank length setting on Vector, we will investigate this.

    Yes it looks like this.
I am using a elemnt bolt but it looks like that the garmin app reconfigure the pedals every time.
Last saturday again. I configure the pedals again with 170mm and also inside the garmin app. And after some seconds the watt results are to high and i need 10 minutes while stopping, driving, stopping to have maybe a correct watt value.
The pedals are note usable in a race!

I need a solution in the next two weeks before i send the pedals back to my dealer.

I was getting 222 with mine I was using a bolt. It started doing it as soon as I upgraded to the 3.00 firmware was perfectly fine before that the crank length wasn't defaulting to 222 in gc was always set at right length. I had to send them back and get them replaced. Now having other problems. Iam now thinking a bolt is causing a lot of these issues as I was using a edge 1000 without any problems and around the time I switched this is when the problems started.
  • I have a Bolt and Edge 520 and Vector 3S Single Sided system. When using the Vector's with the Bolt, I have calibrated using the Bolt, then opened up GCM and paired via BT. That shows the crank length of 170mm, which is what I have in the Edge and also set up by default in GCM. I then remove that pairing for best practice. I have been using the PM and receiving data on both the 520 and Bolt. I can send FIT files if that helps for both. I will keep monitoring GCM and the Bolt to see if the crank length changes. I am using ANT+ for the PM and head unit connections. I am running IOS with both the latest GCM and IOS on the iPhone 7.
