L/R bal., Torque Eff. and Power Smothness - metrics are skewed

So coming off having both the V3 dual and the Assioma duo pedals; it is quite obvious to me that V3 metrics are skewed.

Typically V3 would report something like:
- L/R bal. = 52/48 (or even bigger diff.)
- TE = 81/72
- PS = 24/19

Where as with the Assioma's I get:
- L/R bal. = 50/50 (always within +/-1)
- TE = 81/79
- PS = 24/24 (sometimes 24/23)

Thing is... To my feel (based on more than a 1000 hours with powermeters doing L/R measurements) the V3's are just off. To me, it feels no way natural, to ride to get even numbers. It did not have my attention untill I got the Assioma's. Then boom - it all was clear.

So my question here; am I the only one? Or do you feel the same about the metrics. Let's have a good debate about your experience...

I've noticed that, outdoors, my left leg is favoured approx. 52/48, but indoors on my trainer my right leg is favoured 48/52. This seems to be consistent but I've no idea why.

What about Touque Effectiveness or Pedal Smoothness? Those are the ones most off for me - TE being the worst.

L/R is slightly tilted to L. I have had a short session with 50/50, but that was only 10 min and typical it's 2-3 %'point off to Left...

For me the l/r distribution is the same outdoors and indoors (Tacx Neo). Does not seem logical that the Vector 3 should not be able to show correct balance indoors.

when you are riding indoors your bike does not sway as much when you pedal specially when you stand. it may have an effect on the torque? my guess is it will read more power since the force is not being dampen? i had another post where i have an issue in cycling dynamics not reading standing time accuratly. i wonder if its an issue for you guys also.

There is no special mounting requirements for the pedals to perform a static torque test.

Please, how do I do the static torque test?

Vector-Info is it correct that in order to validate L/R balance you don't really need to do a full accurate Torque test (i.e. know the exact weight etc). You just need to hang the same weight on either pedal and observe the torque number. As long as the difference is inside the allowable tolerance that's enough?

Hi Dave,

To just test balance that will work. Just make sure to use a weight with sufficient mass. 10 lbs or over should be enough for a simple left/right comparative test.

If you want to make any adjustment using the scale factors then you will need to do an accurate torque test.

Without knowing the accuracy of the mass you will not really know if the reading is with spec, but you can compare what both sides report.

I did the static torque test yesterday because I noticed my L/R imbalance had grown much larger (like 44-56 sometimes) and though I was consciously pushing much harder with my left leg to test it, I had a feeling it was off. My right pedal was pretty spot on with what my calculations based on my mass expected it to be, but the left was definitely off. I had to change the scale factor on the left to 1.053. The static test is a bit of a pain to setup, and you have to be pretty confident in the accuracy of what you are using to weigh the mass (including the rope, clip, and everything that is hanging from the pedal).

I struggle to have confidence in my Vectors. I want to, but with so many reported issues, it is hard to identify if what I see is accurate reporting about me or an issue w/ the device. For example, when I began riding w/ the Vectors, it reported 50/50. After Firmware 3.0 upgrade, I now seem to hover around 53/47 to 52/48 L/R balance. Is it possible to have a balance shift so quickly?
