Left pedal intermittent

I installed my new S3's this morning. I set them up using the Garmin 1030 and under sensor details it indicates both pedals are connected. But when I did a test the left pedal doesn't appear to be working - my L/R balance is switching from 100% right to 66% right? Any ideas how to troubleshoot?

  • Did you do a calibration (from the Edge) after you installed the pedals? It also takes a few revolutions at moderate RPM (60-90) to figure out the spindle installation angles from when you first install them.

Yes, I got them working though. Seems the Edge 1030 didn't set them up properly. I connected to the pedals using GCM and it went through the setup process, then I enabled the pedal balance metrics etc then tried again and it worked.

Then later I tried again and the 1030 said the pedals were both in an error state... So I removed the connection in GCM and they came good and now seem to be working properly. So seems that being connected to the pedals using BTLE from the phones blocks the ANT+ connection

This is a known issue and it seems to be dependent on exactly which version of phone, Bluetooth stack, and GCM is running. It's being investigated. In the meantime, the best workaround is to only connect your pedals to GCM when it is necessary to do so (eg. for a firmware update or to do something else that you can't do over your head unit).

It is not a problem to have a Vector 3 BLE link for power data transmission to your laptop to run a training app, even concurrently with the ANT+ connection to the Edge. Firmware 3.00 does have an issue with reporting right-side power phase values, but that will be resolved in the next firmware release.

Thanks, yes I vaguely remembered reading another post to this effect which was why I tried turning the phone off.

    Cheers
