V3 drop outs

On my two recent rides on my indoor bike, I've been experiencing dropouts from V3. I'm riding the exactly same setup, fresh batteries - no nothing changed....?!

Check out these files

From 1:33:49 to 1:35:09 - note the spike as well. Cadence dropped to zero in this case.

Yesterdays ride as well; from 1:05:39 to 1:06:48. Also here, note the spike at 48:03...

Any ideas? Everything is the same as always...!

t_smit ..?

Edit: recorded with an Edge 1030
  • I looked at your file. This is a known problem relating to a communication conflict between the Edge and Vector 3S configurations. Despite the power message drops, the total work you are doing is being recorded correctly. I don't see signs of any other problems (such as intermittent battery contact) in your file.

This problem will be fixed in the next Vector 3 firmware update.

Just back from a 3 hour cycle which had some new issues, after 1.5 hours of riding the pedal started disconnecting from the head unit for longer periods of time. Then after around 20 mins of connecting and disconnecting it came back but with over 5500 watts of a power spike.

Once i got back home i checked inside the pedal body for obvious signs of fretting but nothing.

Batteries are new and have a small amount of baby oil in place.

    Frustrated :(

The pedal is not even 2 weeks old and after this cycle I'm thinking it might be broken. Any help is appreciated to find out if I it's just the battery cap fault I'm experiencing now as well as the communications problem.
  • You are getting resets, which are most likely due to intermittent battery contact. The battery voltage itself looks good, and the radio reception is also good. You may need to re-check the battery contact spring or see if there is any contamination on the contact pads in the pedal.
  • Ride today (only second outside with Vector 3 pedals) recording on both 510 and Wahoo Bolt - noticed frequent 3s power of Bolt of zero and left leg on cycling dynamics power often seemed v low, and at one point when unclipped left leg to test found the PCO was still displaying double digit value

Also had low battery warning on 510 a couple of times after about halfway despite being 'good' yesterday and later checking showing as ok (have replaced batteries and checked position of tape etc)

Your batteries are both just above or at the 'warning' threshold (the left is slightly lower). That should not be giving you measurement issues but you will start to see the low battery warnings much more frequently.
The PCO value is dependent on load. If there is no force being applied then the PCO cannot be determined with much accuracy (but it has no relevance in that case).

If you are getting frequent zero power reports then try not using two head units and see if the problem goes away. If it does, then it may be that the two head units are sending conflicting configuration settings to the pedals. The next firmware release will implement a fix for some of this behaviour but it will still help to ensure that multiple head units all have the same settings (for crank length, auto-zero settings, and in the case of Garmin head units, cycling dynamics configuration).
  • Hi T_Smit:
could you review this ride of mine? https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2676791445

i just had the batteries (stock) changed and throughout the ride, more so during the later half that I kept getting "Right Sensor Missing" every few seconds. Very very frustrating.
  • I got dropouts and power spikes on the last ride (perfectly smooth tarmac). any idea what might have caused this behavior? luckily I still had my power2max on board.

  • Hi,

t_smit is there any chance you could advise on the fit files I sent last week?

Still having numerous dropouts of power and cadence which showed up on yesterday’s ride also.

    Thanks

This is symptomatic of the communications conflict that currently occurs between Vector 3S systems and Edge or Forerunner head units. It occurs with Vector firmware 3.0, 3.15 and 3.30, but will be resolved by the next firmware update. Your files show no hardware resets or power interruptions.
  • Hi, just reviewed my last ride on connect, and what I thought was intermittent dropout on the right pedal seems to be much worse, the pedals are only a couple of weeks old, and three or four rides. Is there any way from the activity page to see what went wrong/solution? There was a huge power spike

    Thanks in advance

t_smit thanks for the info, I’ll await the next firmware update ????????
Strange that I never had any dropouts with 3.0 or 3.15 though......

Cheers for the reply, I had a look but the contacts appear to be perfect.

Guess my only option is to wait for the revised battery cap and firmware update.
