V3 drop outs

On my two recent rides on my indoor bike, I've been experiencing dropouts from V3. I'm riding the exactly same setup, fresh batteries - no nothing changed....?!

Check out these files

From 1:33:49 to 1:35:09 - note the spike as well. Cadence dropped to zero in this case.

Yesterdays ride as well; from 1:05:39 to 1:06:48. Also here, note the spike at 48:03...

Any ideas? Everything is the same as always...!

t_smit ..?

Edit: recorded with an Edge 1030
  • Having the same drop out issue with both an Edge 1000 and 1030. Today it displayed nothing then came to life at the end of my test ride. Hoping this issue will be resolved soon.

t_smit, is there any chance you could please review my fit files I posted above and give me some feedback. Really not sure what I should do with my pedals currently. And Garmin NZ simply do not respond to my correspondence.

    Thank you

I would like to reiterate a question someone else asked: how long does it take to get a reply to a support request? I emailed the vector beta address last week Monday and no reply yet.

Your first file shows the expected dropouts in the first half (due to the head unit / V3S configuration firmware issue) and in the latter half, a number of resets probably caused by interrupted battery contact. The second file only shows the firmware related dropouts, no battery related resets. The next Vector firmware release will resolve this problem... currently we don't have a date for when that will be available.
  • Hi,
t_smit, is there any chance you could have a look at the fit files I've attached to see if you can decipher what my power / cadence drop outs can be attributed to? Up until I did the 3.30 firmware update I'd had no issues so I'm hoping that it's just an update required rather than an intermittent battery contact problem.

Also, wrt the battery cap redesign, is this likely to be rolled out to all Vector 3S users?

    Many thanks.

Sorry about the delay. Your batteries were right on the threshold for the warning; Lower temperature causes the voltage to drop a bit more and you get the warning. Your April 23 file looks like it has no resets. If you have damaged pedal body threads you need to talk to your local Garmin Customer Support group.

The yellow O-ring should be located right at the base of the battery door threads (on the door). If that O-ring moves out of place while unscrewing the door, you should maneuver it back into its proper groove before re-installing the battery door. Your pedal kit should have come with replacement O-rings but if you need more then you should also be able to get these from Customer Support.

The new battery door design should resolve your issues with having to tape the batteries. We will announce when they are available.

Thanks t_smit! You are right with the temperature variation - I should have figured that out. I changed the batteries in the meanwhile and it is ok now. Still running with tape as one of the small insulator tapes has slipped out. I will reach out to local support as you suggested.

This whole support process is a hate-love relationship. I like the pedals very much when they work, as well as the insights that you are giving on this forum. Perhaps you should take this as a word of encouragement to cope with the frustration that is being channeled here.

However, for the price of the Vectors, the expectations are very high. It is not my first Garmin product with issues. On my first ever triathlon, my FR 735 reseted immediately after crossing the finish line and I lost everything. It is very frustrating for a consumer to see a product failing in the first days of use. And this was the case with the Vectors 3, too many issues at the same time - I had no idea where to start and what to do to troubleshoot.

I appreciate your active involvement on the forum, and I would like to add to the voices of others: keep the issues and fixes transparent to the consumers. You may have a great product on your hands and you need to regain the trust of consumers. Looking forward to the redesigned doors and software updates!

Thank, So by the second file you refer to, that is the short indoor ride? I taped the batteries for that one, so does this mean that I will have to always tape batteries to not have the battery contact failures I was having on that first ride, or will there eventually be a roll out of replacement battery doors for the 3S? or should I swap to a CR1/3N battery? Should I be ringing Garmin NZ to try get in contact with someone for a warranty claim for the battery door?

    Cheers

i have had no drop outs for the past month or more once i corked up the battery contact ( a very very delicate operation) and running CR1/3N batteries. some rides 9 hours long. cycling dynamics running fine. still running on version 3. all good here.
  • t_smit , please can you have a look at the attached Fit files re dropouts, etc - Ride today (only second outside with Vector 3 pedals) recording on both 510 and Wahoo Bolt - noticed frequent 3s power of Bolt of zero and left leg on cycling dynamics power often seemed v low, and at one point when unclipped left leg to test found the PCO was still displaying double digit value

Also had low battery warning on 510 a couple of times after about halfway despite being 'good' yesterday and later checking showing as ok (have replaced batteries and checked position of tape etc)
