Pedal Reset Battery Cover Warning!

If you goto reset your Garmin it tells you to remove and replace the battery cover, but it doesnt tell you to limit the tightening of the cover to 3 or 4 turns like it does when the manual describes replacing the batteries. A HUGE PROBLEM WITH THE MANUAL.

I learned the hard way. Called customer support and made them aware of the issue. They want $55.00 to replace the $2.99 (my estimate of the real cost) plastic cover which will hopefully fix the issue. I shared my dissatisfaction with the manual and asked them to cover the cost but was refused. Pedals are 6 weeks old.

Garmin, if you are reading this.....IM NOT IMPRESSED.

  • Sorry to hear about the issue you have with the battery cover Mike. We will be in touch about your system and get this resolved for you. Apologies for the frustration.
  • True to your word Shawn....

I received an email from Garmin today to solve the issue. Without giving all the gory details Garmin is replacing the pedals with a new set and standing by their product the way that I hoped they would.

Hopefully the instruction manual gets edited as well to prevent similiar instances of this in the future.

Thanks to Shawn and the whole Garmin Team!

@Shawn-Garmin I have a quite similar issue. The right battery cap is perfect, from the left he little plastic craddle where the battery sits falls out easily, and it seems it's causing constant false battery messages on my edge 1000. Would it be possible to get a Battery cover replacement?
  • FeriGodo Where did you purchase your Vector 3 set?

  • Has anyone changed the batteries without breaking something ? I'm a bit worried now.
  • It would be good to get a 'best practice' from Garmin so we can follow it closely when it’s our turn to change the batteries!

A "Hands On" video on how to replace the batteries (on YOUTUBE?) is needed.

My vector 3 are band new and there are no problems so far, but I want to keep them that way when the batteries need to be replaced.

Had my pedals for a month no problems til last night. Pedaled through a corner at speed and a light scuff pulled the batter cap off my pedal. Didn't knock me down or upset my stroke. I didn't realize what happened to the pedal until a few miles down the road. I'm waiting to see what the "fix" is from Garmin after I get them my serial #. Sounds like these things do not go back together very easily tho.

No - mine was replaced as well - just this week. More details abot my story here

And I'd like to raise my concern once again: the whole battery housing thing is really fragile. And as I write in my link above; this will sooner or later become a problem for Vector 3. Just wait until everyone (some are still wating for delivery) start changing their batteries..!

In my perspective, the Vector 3 would have been a perfect home-run if they had rechargeable batteries, charged from usb, in a completely sealed housing. This would have made them super tough and sturdy and easy to use in daily riding.

Admittedly, with the current design, I'm actually afraid of the next time I have to change batteries. Will they break again? What about after 4-5 times battery change...?

You need to take a closer look on these flimsy battery covers. Imagine if V3 get the reputation; oh they look absolutely nice, but they only last until battery change...!

I'm not trying to be an a*s here. My intention is to add in real life experience. I really want to love my V3, but it's doubtfull at the moment...
